Wow. E30 getting neck to neck against 340i is pretty impressive.

I love how honest 325i moves through corners. Even with decent amount of body rolls and bump steers, I just have much more confidence tossing it around compared to modern german cars.

To be fair, the E30 has slicks, and that makes a big difference
Drive it hard. Maintain it well.

the 340i is still a 2-ton land barge the size of a 7 series. I'd think having 320hp and more torque off idle than the M20 makes peak should give it a big advantage, even with lesser tires. Of course the 340i probably comes with what, 275s?

the 340i's brakes are probably bigger than the E30's wheels, but then again it's so much heavier that it needs huge brakes. which in turn just adds to unsprung weight..

                Enjoyed the video a lot.

I have to admit when I crashed my e30 a couple of years ago I almost gave up and bought an e46 330i, even test drove a few. That video sums up pretty much why I decided to fix my car instead - the e46 just didn't have the same connection to the road.

I've owned 8 e30's and 5 e21's in the past 27 years of my life. I've had friends that had e30 M3's brand new off the lot so I've known the e30 secret for a long time. But it's not until now that I'm starting to see the appreciation of these cars. The following they have, the communities built around our passion for these little shoe boxes. There have been thoughts of selling my car as I am no spring chicken anymore, "leave it to the youngsters" I've said. I'm 47 and my love affair continues, I don't think I can walk away.
I am not sick, I am twisted. Sick makes it sound like there is a cure.

Great video... didn't appreciate the lack of Eta love though. LOL Thanks for posting and it proves what we already know

I went on a cruise with a bunch of Toronto BMW drivers back in September, and I had the oldest and most stock car in the bunch, and I was keeping up with the newer "faster" cars just fine. Several of my fellow drives drivers were quite complimentary on my driving and how my little Eta was keeping up. That really made my day and made that cruise so worthwhile.

I thought that was a bit funny too - unfortunately you guys got neutered e21s and early e30s.

The rest of us got the 320/6 and the 323i which was a cracking car too. I think the 323i is the most underrated e30 of the lot as the 2.3 is less prone to detonation and head cracks than the 325i, and is only 18hp behind. BMW did a bit of smoke and mirrors with the 325i as they upped the diff ratio from 3.45 in the 323i to 3.73 or 4.10 in the 325i to make the difference more pronounced than it really was. I'd wager that all the press cars had a 4.10 diff.

Throw the 4.10 diff in the 323i and with it's 100kg less weight, you're hard pressed to tell the difference from a 325i.

that was an awesome video. the wagon is a regular at the cars & coffee in novato (NorCal). Also, I hate that I wont get to take my car to that exact track in a few weeks. This is great.

Yes I totally agree, the 323i we got in Aus and Europe was quick car with minimal mods. Diff, cut out the pulse air pipes in the exhaust manifold, and tweak the L-Jet and here in Aus it was as quick as a 5.0 V8 Commodore VK.

Fond memories of going sideways in the dry out of corners in a mates 323i coupe, got me hooked onto E30's from an early age.
