I never ask hella money for shit I sell. That's just bad business. This is a community with people who are into the same thing as you. It's a family of sorts. If you try to rip off your family, you're the scum of the earth. Plain and simple.

I haven't found used parts on this side of the border to be too crazy. I've picked up some parts from wrecking yards, a BMW used parts specialist, and a guy who does it more as a hobby.

            I've had pretty good luck.

            Some of my finds:
Complete clutch kit (Sachs - clutch disc, pressure plate, release, pilot bearing and alignment tool) - $100 from the hobby guy. Also got a BMW reman'd alternator for $100 plus some other odds and ends. Also got a front fender from him for $50, and 2 new KYB shock inserts ($50).

Set of E30 premium speakers - $20 (wrecker)

Lower steering column assembly - $50 (BMW used part specialist)

            Used tranny - $20 - kijiji ad.

            I think I've done OK.

E30 parts seem to be going up and up as they get older, good parts are getting harder and harder to find. I would say parts sold on ebay are a bit ridiculous but ebay takes 10 percent plus auction cost plus paypal fees that's why everything seems to be marked up quite a bit online.

Nope. Prices are cheap for bmw car and they are not going up unless if we are talking about hartge, alpine etc. Its just the few idiot who knows nothing about market value and ask unrealistic prices.

Junkyards are a good way to get parts you need cheap. At this point a majority of my interior is from the junkyard. Sometimes really good stuff comes through.

We have no junkyards here. I have to find everything online or somewhere else.

fortunately I just found a Russian guy who lives out in the sticks that makes side money parting out BMWs. lol. Actually he's pretty nice, but I think he wants a bit much for some of his parts.. at least I don't have to ship them or buy sight unseen.

If people left their sale prices in their ads (like the rules state you have to in the classifieds section) then I don't think this would be nearly an big of an issue.

I've been selling parts for a while, and most of the overpricing i see is because the seller has no god damn idea what hes selling, just slapped a price on it and called it good.

When I sell parts I find the part on RealOEM, search it on parts sites to see the new price, if its NLA i ask maybe 10-20% more then what the retail was (as long as it was in good condition) and if its still available I ask about half what the retail for a new one is worth.

the noobs are the one asking high prices. theyre used to hondas and think since its a BMW the parts need to be expensive.

dont pay the high prices, youre only feeding the fire.

Usually when I sell stuff - I go the same route of seeing what the market is getting. Sometimes I look at Completed/Sold listings on eBay. And even then, everything I post/list the price is always negotiable..

                                Course, cash always talks.

I have gotten some great deals/free stuff from other local members, and I try to play it forward the same way. Figure, if I can at least break even off stuff, or make a little to pay for another part that I need, then it's a win for everyone.

That's not to say, I can see why some people get cheesed off with selling online - there is a lot of tire kickers and people who will try and get everything for free (with free shipping!)

As I said cash talks - but I also am a huge fan of just trading. That to me is a better transaction if both parties get something they need out of the deal! Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it, and if the something I have is not worth much to me, something else may be worth more to me. If we trade for items we both want - win-win.

Heck - I traded an E34 for the E30 I am parting out straight across. The E34 ran, had a clean title and was in decent shape - whereas the E30 didn't start (bad fuel pump), won't go in gear (linkage broken) and has some bad rust in the quarter panel. BUT - it had two fenders and a hood that I needed for my other project car. So for me it was a good trade/deal.
