whats with the crazy pricing for used parts?

I just got an e30 that needs love and figured used would be cheaper. trolling the used parts forum guys are asking 20 for lights that are 7 new. door handles are 23 new and theyre asking 40. etc etc
One guy even wanted 300 for kidneys, 325e fogs, plate lamps, one tail lamp and a door handle lol
Way to rip off fellow bimmer guys.

im all about market value but please, when parts are cheaper new ill go with that.

There's a 300% mark up for noobs that complain.

(just kidding - I know - some guys are retarded with their pricing. But plenty of other deals out there)

haha yeah, you see this a lot. it's perpetuated by guys who think parts are rare because they've only found them once in a junkyard.

its kind of cool though because it forced me to look harder at new and find some good deals. ebay also is great to see what market is putting it at retail pricing, if youre asking more than ebay youre fuckin nuts.

lol ya im a newb to the forum but not cars or bimmers. guess i should introduce myself. My name is josh and im an addict....automobile addict. My current bmw is an e36 m3 ls1 i built a few years ago. This is my first e30 and im really digging it! Such an analog feel and surprisingly fun even being dog shit slow. I think boost will be in the future ;)

ya gotta hunt and wait for deals. Not much of a sense of camaraderie in the used parts section of the forum

For interior trim pieces etc I try to fin a guy parting out a car on craigslist and spend some time to get to know him so it's not all business. I only really buy used stuff off the forum if I'm having a hard time finding it locally.

But I guess it's cool because when you go to sell something it will sell quickly at a reasonable price

You can buy interior door handles on Amazon new for $10.xx and the surround trim pieces from Blunttech.com new for $5.xx. I've been living with my shitty non-functioning handles for years because I assumed they were super expensive and was too lazy to look for replacements.

tl;dr - you have to look around for the best deals, including amazon, ebay, and online parts stores

the seller doesn't always do it on purpose though.
they might not know the value so they just list a price. without a price reference why price low when you can price high and say obo?

in my experience having a few threads to show the seller to get them to lower their price has always worked. if after that they still want an insane amount of money then yeah, they're being a douche.

This looks like the spot for my for sale ad pet peeve.

NIB Price - no one cares what you paid.they are going to compare to lowest price they can get it for online then expect a discount. Why....for starters, in most cases they don't know you. Second...and this is big....buying from you they have no warranty...ZERO...NADA...ZILCH.

May not matter much on hard parts, but beware...if they are NIB Koni or Bilsteins you can kiss the lifetime warranty goodbye. How much discount would that require ?

Perfect but.... - there is no but to perfect. It is or it isn't...so that dash FS that's perfect, except for a small crack.....give me break

Known good - this means that you PERSONALLY ran with this part and stake you left nut that it works. "The guy who sold it to me said it works" does not count. Save it for the judge.

Plus PayPal - really ? Seriously? We are taking about 3%. If you can't build that in to your price go sell it on a street corner. I once negotiated for a $15 part and the seller tried to hit me up for fees. We are talking $.45 !!! <insert Lewis Black saying WTF !>

                          Done for now. Thanks :)

Junk yard bandits. Strip an e30 , destroying any part in their way and mark it up well beyond what they paid to pay for their insurance.

Good folks are here. Picked up a PS pump for 35 shipped. Some parts are rare and command a premium but even those are a tough sale anymore.
