best gas mileage

Even with a Jim C chip, my car still gets 26-29 MPG on the highway. I've never really checked it in-town, but I don't get gas very often. And that's running 92.

I heart my eta.

On my well-maintained 325is, with stock power and stock diff I get 27-29mpg on the highway (if I go near the speed limit...), and that's with 87 octane. (80+ mph is a slightly different story with the 3.73 rear... )

If people daily drive with a stock, well-cared for 325is, they can be perfectly economical, and be very fun. Drifting is mostly technique anyway, horsepower is for cheaters who can't feint well. ;)

My car's not really that slow. I can hold my own with a 325i just fine until we get up to speed, into the higher rev-range.

Unfortunately the higher rev range happens within 20 feet of the start for an eta OH SNAP SLAM DUNK YO!

E30s that get good gas mileage are generaly slow..

A m10 sips on gas because it can't put down any power. And it's also light which helps fuel economy.

But coming from 4banger imports... they are a dread around town in traffic or commuting in the city. Torque is a great thing.

Sure, etas have torque, but they also have no tach... and I have a couple friends in them who don't get any better mpg around town than I do. (since it's stop and go) Heck, I got pretty poor mpg in my Sentra if I wasn't on a long highway trip, just flogging it around town.

I don't see why torque is necessary for around town driving. My mom's 1.6L automatic Civic hatchback is just as good around town as my car is.

Well, it's personal preference I guess not to have to get high in the rpms to get really motivated, or deep into the throttle.

I actually hate typical Honda's power delivery: dead on its face before 5K, a 325i may not be "fun" until past 3.5K, but you can still get around at 2000rpm (like an eta).

The lowest Ive gotten on my 318is (mixed city and highway, mostly city) was 29 mpg. Ive gotten as high as 36 mpg for a full tank. On average though its about 31-32. An eta will come close, but a 318is will sip much less gas.

I dont even baby the car, each tank has seen numerous trips to redline, 3rd gear passes on the highway, etc.

ya don't in 325i really. just 50% throttle and shift at just over 4 grand, and you'll comfortably pace up to speed. but in a Four, you'd have to either mash the gas or ride redline to do the same (not as annoying in an auto though)

Umm, for just putsing around 4k is a little high, i give about 30% throttle and shift around 2-3k, it has enough torque to get it moving well enough.
