Id' look more into the first one personally. It looks better takin care of. And if you replace that head with an 87 is head it would be a lot of fun.

The second is a 4 banger and I'm just not a fan at all of those. I feel they are both price average for the market.

If it were me, I would hold out for an 89 325is. But you don't know what you don't know yet. And so it will take you a couple e30's to figure out what you like and what you don't like. Grass is always greener, so just getting into one should be your first step.

I'm not saying you're wrong but on the 91 the guy claims it's a 6.

Also I'm more interested in the 91 because of the smaller bumpers and the front valence. Any tips on what to look for when buying?

The first is way better. Working converted A/C, manual trans, lots of recent work price below 3k. That guy could be listing his car for 3500

You could take the extra 1200 dollars between the cars and buy some euro bumpers for the early model

I agree completely. The only issue is that it's got those anal eyes on it where they don't belong. Get it some smileys and a little tune up and I'd rock it.

lol yes, I hate when kids do that to the headlights.

And for the OP, like I said, you don't know what you don't know. So go with your gut and get what you want. IMO I would stay away from the 2nd at that price. It's an auto and 4cyl. TRUST ME. That means it has a small diff and weak rear end. strut housings are smaller, and just everything is more difficult to swap later. Not saying it hasn't been done; it has and is well documented here in this forum.

If all you want is plastic bumpers from a late model car, I'd hold out and wait for a true 325i not a 318.

If you don't mind the automatic, get the late model. It has sport seat, the bumper you like, LSD (maybe), and has potential 5 sp swap. I would skip the first one unless if it is an 325es. Then again, I would pass on both.

Ask the guy if its a 325 or 318. He has contradicting statements in his ad. If its a 318, I'd pass. If its a 325... id consider it. 5 speed swaps are super easy to do and pretty cheap if you're patient.

Unless you're looking for an auto then score. The 325i auto's with 4.10 rear ends are actually not too bad to drive IMO. I will cation you, there are some flags with this guys post.
New Tran's (why) thats low miles to have it replaced.
No rear emblems (tells me its a 318) Why remove them?
The door panels are taken apart and handle trim is missing. (just tells me hes not into detail)

None of these would make me walk away, just things to consider. It lets you know a bit about who you are buying the car from and how they take care of a classic.

I honestly don't know if a single late model 318i(s) that was built with auto for the NA market.

IMHO I'd pass on both. Then again, anything under 5g's these days doesn't seem to buy you much of a looker.

All late models have the same size strut housings. And all 318is came with 5 speeds. But that cAR is just a base model 325i, not a 325is. Go with early model.

No late model 318's had auto trans in the USA. Go look at both. Make an offer on the one you like best. I believe both are fairly priced assuming they are as stated in their respective ads.

Both are going to need a grand or two worth of parts to make them good daily drivers. If you can't afford the cost of the car and the cost of consumable replacement, it's probably better not to buy one now. Wait until you are in a secure financial place.

I'd get the silver one. I think both are priced ok for the respective shape / model, not great deals, and you should always try to get less. Start at -$800 and try to negotiate. You can use the fact that it's not a 318is to negotiate, it's just a 325i. It has sport seats, but not the sport lip or side skirts or 13 button obc. The black one is rough. You can negotiate on the cracked dash, unpainted fender, stupid headlights, etc. Both most likely have open differentials.

If the silver e30 owner is unwilling to settle at $3500 I'd tell him thanks and you'll look at a few more e30s and then try to get the black one for $2400 or so. If you have $4000 to spend, euro bumpers and a fresh paint job (even if it's a cheap maaco job) will have the black one looking reaaaaally nice.
