Its a dowel pin. It locates the head on the block so it can be bolted down correctly.

They are also used for the sam purpose aligning the flywheel to the crank, and the transmission to the block.

Reinforced rear sway bar mounts. They bolt through the trunk floor because stock ones bend and/or break with coupled with a larger bar.

Correct, Most people think the shock towers push IN and put the bar under COMPRESSION, but MOST TIMES its the opposite.
