Sorry no one is taking you very seriously op. It's just that, well......no one is taking you seriously.
Personally, I have lots of other stuff that I could chose to worry about that is way more important(or likely) than this if I so desired. You know....like losing my nutsack to a rabid dog or getting my wiener inadvertently chopped off in a carrot slicer. Lol.
I just don't forsee any valid purpose for going apeshit over something as isoteric as this. Sorry man. I respect you for your opinion though. Does that help?

Obviously, very generic numbers but;
Documented deaths from stray brick through windshield:
1
Estimated Drivers Currently in United States (2015):
210,000,000
Chance of Death by brick through window
0.00000000047%
Documented deaths from Auto Collisions (2016):
34,000
Chance of Death byauto accident:
0.000161%
I really hope you aren't fretting over a brick coming through your 25 year old car's windshield.
Bricks are not the only object/hazard.
Your numbers are not only generic, but they are off by quite a bit. Yes it is an unlikely situation, but why would you dismiss it?
And again, why do you seem to keep bringing up a 25 year old car as if thats relevant???

Have you ever been driving on the freeway and found yourself behind an old rickety trailer filled with junk or next to a loaded down pick-up truck that didn't seem safe? This year alone, motorists have lost at least 5,000 items along Twin Cities freeways according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Hey look! Its not a brick! Wooooowww and its documented!

Stay away from E30 M3 Sport Evolution cars, they have thinner glass. Super dangerous to drive on the street.Leave a comment:

You have a better change of winning the powerball lottery, than you do dying via a brick thru the windshield.Leave a comment:

You could laminate layers of plastic and glass to a thickness of 1 inch or go with LateFan's suggestion.Leave a comment:

Chance of being struck by lightning in any given year*:
0.0000014%
Chance of being struck by lightning in your lifetime*:
0.00033%
* does not assume death, which significantly reduces the oddsLeave a comment:

Chances of such a thing affecting you are pretty damn slim. And you would make your windshield brick-proof in the same way you'd make it bulletproof - thick laminated glass. Get out your wallet. I was actually at a glass museum today. They had a windshield there that had been shot twice with I think a rifle. It was about an inch thick, maybe a little more, although I think it had a cavity in the middle - the idea being that the outer layers stop the bullet and the inner layer stays intact. I imagine 1/2" thick glass would do the job though.Leave a comment:

I never thought I would live to see the day where windshield strength was a debated topic.

Very true when it comes to a collision. When i can afford a diesel E350 I will buy one for daily commuting.
But, regardless if you drive an E30 or not, that type of thing can happen. A windshield is a windshield.
Driving a newer safer car will not prevent a brick from flying into your windshield.
Thats why I made this thread for people to share valuable input on how to make a windshield stronger
