Yeah, they're dreaming. I'm not much into museum cars, except the ONE that the factory decided to keep in perfect condition for historic value. But why a rock stock base E30 with skinny wheels?
Sort of reminds me of those mythical stories of a kid who bought a brand new Corvette and died in Vietnam. The parents keep it covered in the garage forever as a shrine.
Ha! Super expensive low mile cars are museum pieces. I don't see the point in spending that much, you'd have to be the type to just stare at it in the garage. Buy a nice example with some decent miles on it for 1/10th of the price, if you like cars for what they're meant to do.
Which to me, are usually more interesting stories. And it's what a car was supposed to offer when we were youngsters - freedom to explore and create memories. Not as something to stand around, sipping wine and discuss the design merits.

I can appreciate something like this being displayed in a museum. I think 50 years from now, finding a pristine base* model car like this will be more uncommon than an M3 in similar condition. The reason being, no one wants to buy a base model BMW and then keep it off the road for 30 years.
Meh, not interesting to me. The cars that interest me the most are the ones with 500k+ miles that still look like someone gave a shit about it over the years.
