Knowing close to nothing about these engines is an obstacle I will have to overcome. Another obstacle I have to face is the lack of availability in my area. This is the only E30 for sale I can find across multiple websites. I do like the idea of just light modifications to the engine, suspension upgrades and restoring it to be an enjoyable daily driver though. Motor, ECU, and transmission the only difference between the 325e and the i? If that's the case, I can buy this, restore it, and later swap everything over if I can find affordable parts/donor car.Are you the type to rebuild engines, take the engine and transmission out and refurbish front and rear subframes?
There are a lot of posts and how-to threads for taking a b27 block and adding a b25 head/intake/wire harness/DME to make a hybrid. It’s basically a 327seta but not exactly.
I lean towards making the cars just like they were fresh off the assembly line, so I’m not going to be rebuilding engines. You could just restore that car and it would be a great driver. I got my son an eta and got myself an i and we love them, maybe a little too much, lol.
You could always use the eta for a daily and buy an i some time later for fun and mods.
I feel like many here would say $2500 is a bit high for that condition. You’re looking at a couple thou just to get it driving right, another 2k to make it look nice.
Thanks for all of your answers I appreciate them!Leave a comment:

Understood! I reckon the 325e would be a decent "ice breaker" to the world of BMWs! I can post pics of the 325e here to get your guys' opinion if that's cool! Speedo, MPG guage and fuel gauge does not work. Windows don't work. 120,000 miles. Asking price of $2,500. Interior is clean and exterior could use paint.Leave a comment:

So, any question answered before on this forum is obsolete, because why would anyone search for anything when they can start a thread and get spoon fed answers on the most basic shit?
Ya know, you're right.Leave a comment:

TROOF!
My IS350 cranks out 306hp from factory and is a total snoozefest compared to my all-stock 325is with 168hp.
If I wanna be a hooligan, and have fun driving it's my 325is! If I want comfort and speed with no drama/excitement, it's IS350 :nice:Leave a comment:

Then just buy that 325e. Do all the basic maintenance and see how you like it. I've driven both and personally I like the 2.7 with its torque and longer gearing, great for daily driving and makes for a nice first-second gear autox machine. The greater rev range and power band of the 325i is obviously more satisfying but it has shorter gearing. I drove a [modded] eta for so many years that I came to appreciate what it could do, so when i started driving my 325i I was expecting something more exciting but honestly it was kind of a let down. E30s aren't slow cars but they feel like they're working harder compared to my e36 328is that effortlessly blows them away. If you like the e30 styling but are coming from a larger modern car, then consider e28s or e34s with the m30. Similar styling, solid, more roomy (e30s are tiny), and engines that still pack a punch.Leave a comment:

To be honest, and im sure others will dissagree but even whatever horsepower my standard rebuilt m20b23 has i think is plenty to have fun in the e30. which is what, maybe 120hp at the wheels?
E30 is a very light car, 300-400hp must be basically undriveable at anything more than half throttle. Though I'm sure sticky tyres can help.Leave a comment:

300hp is boat loads in an e30. Please do some more reading around this site/other e30 specific sites before asking questions that have been answered countless times before.Leave a comment:
