I work in sales and one of my customers worked for UPS. He personally told me to never ship stuff UPS because they are union based. According to him the workers are very careless with stuff because they knew they weren't gonna get fired anyway. He used to have tons of bad stories for me. I personally have not had a problem with them though. I will continue to use them until they give me a reason not to.

I used to work for UPS...
UPS is the only outfit that will ship ground to Canada, so I am thinking about switching.
Right now I exclusively use DHL and USPSJoe Funk -- Portland Oregon

It doesn't matter if it's UPS, USPS, FEDEX, DHL or anything else. It's the dildo monkey package handlers and drivers that work on your route. I've had problems with all of them. I've had $300 overnight DHL shipping take a week with no refund, FedEx take 2 weeks for 2 day, UPS crush and ruin 3 of the same product in a row (2 subsequent attempts to ship again) and take twice as long to ship than estimated. So far the only couriers that haven't failed me are mail and Purolator. Purolator ships across Canada and they get things from BC to Ontario or back in 1 day (I've had my parents ship me something at 7:50, 10 mins before they close, and it arrived at my office in Vancouver the next day around noon). And mail only promises 4-6 weeks and that's what they do, sometimes less.
Unfortunately the best way to go is for each one of your favourite sources or destinations like BMA, try a few couriers and stick to the one that delivers on time and without damage. If it's a one time shipment from/to that destination... just make sure you get insurance for the full amount and cross your fingers.
EDIT: the signature thing is up to you, you need to tell them that you don't require a signature when shippingComment

I love fed ex, I usually get my stuff early from them but if I am not home then I usually have to drive 20 miles to go and pick it up.
UPS has destroyed numerous packages and they usually throw stuff on my porch over our little gate thing that is on our front porch.Comment

The manufacturing company my father works for switched to UPS a while back because Fedex was damaging many of their items they were shipping. They've been happy with UPS since then....
Of course I'm biased having worked at UPS for the Christmas season.Comment

UPS pays their drivers alot more, that probably helps. Hell, try calling fed ex and talking to someone, thye are all outsourced to the middle east and you can barley understand them. We have had Fed ex lose $15000 plotters, but thanks for shipping insurance.90is, longtube headers/straight pipe/mark d 18# 93 0ctane chip/18# injectors/vogtland springs/bilst. sports
