All of that logic applies even more so to an E30 versus an E36 M3.

there is NOTHING cheap about porsche!!!! i am not going to bag on you since you really seem like you don't have any experence with them. i was a porsche mechanic and let me tell you there is nothing fun about doing any of the major maintainence on 944's, turbo or otherwise. the suspension is alum. insted of steel on the turbos, different rack (quicker ratio), brakes are 4 pot brembo all the way around, bigger sways, different body to fit the intercooler, belly pans. etc etc etc...the list goes on!!! you will spend a mint on parts like was said before, most are factory only ,not avail aftermarket, if you find them used the parts are usually worn out because if they were good they were already picked over by the other 944 owners with no $!! we used to take the $500-$900 na 944's and strip/gut them and make them into 944 spec racers for customers, that's about all a cheap 944 is good for except parts. if you are dead set on getting a na 944, at least get a 16 ventolator. next choice would be a 944s2 same motor as a 968 but with out the vario cam set up (think v-tech done a different way). the best would be a clean 968, 3.0 vario cam, and pretty dam fast! other wise get the turbo. sorry to say but, porsches as tinkering play toys are better suited to those with lots of disposable income. if you find one cheap you will get what you pay for, believe me!!! when i built my 914-6 2.4 i was lucky to get in at $11,000 because i could do the paint/bodywork myself and i had a 71 euro 911s 2.4 complete to use for parts and to sell off the extras to offset the costs and i had the connections from working at the shop and had a place to scrounge parts. most porsche owners (douche bag elitests and those that trac/work on them themselves) will laugh at you for saying what you are saying just because they have been there spending the $$$$ on their cars, not just because they are dicks.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.Comment

Why does MegaSquirt suck? Because it is cheap? Hell, with the current software/firmware it is more than capable of hanging with some of the best ecus. I mean shit, it controls fuel, it controls spark. I mean honestly, what more does it need to not be in the sucky category that you speak of. Honestly, if you have never done any work with ecu's, SHUT THE FUCK UP!
if you really think that you can turn a 944 into a better or equal 951 for less then the price of a 951 you have to either an idiot or completely brilliant..... i think its the former...e30sport.net

914-6 and 914's are ALOT heavier than you think! if you want light weight you need to talk to GT racing, and order: fiberglass bumpers, fiberglass doors, fiberglass hood, fiberglass decklid, then bleed $ to pay for them.

off the top of my head they are stock around 3200 lbs. mine is stored at my parents house or i would go into the garage and look at the sticker. there is not alot to "gut" out of the car for weight. it is a very stiff chassis for a reason. light weight BOLT-ON body parts is about the only way to lighten it up. a 911 late carerra front "beam" will save you about 40lbs and bolts in (alum vs. steel). also the 911 motor weighs more and you add more weight with the dry sump oiling system and tank.seien Sie größer, als Sie erscheinen

That seems heavier than I remember, but also, thats GVW... Thats the max allowable weight on both axles... Not necessarily the weight with like a half tank and a driver. My dad had a few 914s and he is saying that they were around 2300 to 2400lbs. Definitely more with a 6 cylinder though! The GVW on my 2.5 liter Alfa Milano was 3600lbs give or take, and I know for a fact that car didn't weigh anything over 2700lbs stock.'88 528e /// '88 M5 /// '89 951 /// '98 E430 /// '02 M5Comment

I can pull NA 944's anywhere on the track in my 318is.
Turbo an NA car and you have a shitty underbuilt car with power. after you get a good brake and suspension setup, you'll have lots of $$$ into it.Comment
