Strictly BMW in Bellevue told me that they have yet to do a valve adjust on an E46 M3 because when the customers hear the cost, the opt not to do it.
One of the owners of Griots Garage opted for the E46 M3 SMG package even though he's a total car guy because he has the killer commute over the Tacoma Narrows Bridge and all the 1-2-1-2- shifting in his old stick shift BMW was beginning to hurt his back.
Talked to him about it fairly in depth, his was also the first SMG E46 I was able to get underneath and actually inspect in terms of the shift mechanics.

The E46 M3 valve adjust is every 15k, most other BMWs are at a longer interval. I've confirmed this with a number of BMW repair shops who have donated Inspection I and Inspection IIs to the BMW Club charity banquet, but they omit the E46 M3 in their donation because they don't want to give away the spendy valve adjust that is required in the Inspt. That is unless BMW uses oil and oil filters up to par with Amsoil, but I doubt it.
