Just to make sure everybody is crystal clear on this...

This is what a 5th-->2nd misshift will do to an M20. I'll guesstimate 10k-ish RPMs for this one. He must have been aiming for some 4th gear acceleration, instead he hit 2nd and punched the gas. Enjoy.

See, if he had had a v-tec head, he would have revved to 10k rpm just fine! AND VTEC WOULDA BEEN RUNNING! ;)

Avoided that misfortune some years back in an older e30, downshifted and miscalculated the speed while trying to slow down at the last minute...the rev counter went way past the red line and into the econometer zone IIRC

I thought that was the end of the motor, luckily it survived that incident. NEVER again have I or will I ever make that same mistake...

After a good cleaning, I was able to reuse the oil pan. The valve cover came along too.

If he needs eninge parts, I've got 5 325i pistons and rods in the basement :D
My guese is the crank is good, the rods, you could maybe hone the block and get oversize rings, but it would be cheaper to get a used block.

I had a complete motor sitting around at the shop, no parts needed. Car is already back on the road.

I would warn the McHenry boys from looking at those pics. They might be too much for them to handle, like the way a chick from the Humane Society might be hurt by a dead puppy.

jesus fucking christ. that motor is FUCKED. time to move on to an m50 or such.

man i felt my heart stop in a situation like that. i let a friend of mine drive my car a while back and he was shifting from 4th to 5th while he was at about 5000rpms and instead of 5th he hit 3rd. luckly he caught it before it could fully rev up but damn, i knew he did it right when he shifted, i just about shit myslef.

funny thing is, this same guy just bought a new tiburon the other day. i was riding with him. he raced a friend on the highway. ran to the top of 3rd (about 90) and instead of hitting 4th he hit 2nd. again, i knew he had done it right when i saw taht stick move. this time it didnt catch it as fast. i saw the tac jump past 8 grand(where the tac stops) and at least to 9000. stock redline is like 6500 or 7000. he drove away without any problems. it woulda been a tragidy as that motor only has like... 2000 miles on it.

McHenry's what?? I'm sad to see these pics!!! That motor is a 2,8i that we built for the guy, and it's the 2nd time he blew it up! The first time he blew it up because he wanted too high of a compression ratio. We warned him to mix some 100+ octane in it because it would ping on pump gas. He didnt....

Oh well. He's getting a stock B25 now and he's gonna like it.
