Well yeah, everyone is sad to see them. But they are really passionate about their motors. You should have seen how offended they were about me stupidly buying 21.5# injectors for a M30 AFM swap......

they'd be crushed for days for those pictures. Just how dearly they hold engines.......

That's one of my greatest fears, is the 5th to 2nd shift. My shift pattern is going to be as tight as possible.

so what actually occured there, looks like a con rod went right through the piston, or sheared off of the wrist pin....? it also looks like some of the piston melted onto the valvetrain, lol. wtf???

No, the rod and pin are still in place. Most of the damage seems to be due to the fact that the #6 intake valve went for a wild ride in the #6 chamber, then the smashed up little bits got shot back out the intake (I even found some in the AFM) and got sucked in by other cylenders, hence the marks around the edges of the other pistons.

I did somewhat of the same thing on my MG. Didn't kill the engine but did a high rev 3rd to 2nd shift when I was still learning o drive a stick. Not a happy sound. Needless to say I hope to never do that again. :oops:

I havent had the pleasure of misshifting yet, Ive missed or miscalculated the clutch-shift timing and ground it a few times. Minus the whole backhand thing and that UUC site i shift like that most of the time. From 5th to 4th i let the shifter rest on the edge of the shift pattern and it just rolls into 4th.(you know what im trying to say?)Anyway, sucks for that guy but aparently hes not the brightest one anyway. So whatever.

What's with all the mushy mushy talk over a blown motor? :? It happens in racing and Daily Driving...

Race motors cost tons more and still destruct....no motor is 100% bulletproof from human error or mechanical mishaps... that could have been a timing belt break.

What would you guys do if you had an s14 or modded m20/m50 that bit the dust? Pardon the pun but you guys are blowing this outta proportion.

I can understand if it were fatal accident where a life was lost but a motor biting the dust is nothing new.... go visit a race shop one day and take your handkerchief and kleenex with you :idea: :twisted:

story time!
i went to a buddys shop last year and he showed me this 320i turbo. it was a street car pushin about 350 hp. the guy had money shifted from 4th-3rd instead of 4th to 5th. it reved to close to 12000rpms and 2 of the cylinders shot THROUGH the head and impacted with the hood almost busting through. the other 2 cyl's looked like that #6 cyl in the pics above. i couldnt belive what i was seeing.

another story ive herd, from a different mechanic, was that some guy in an e36 money shifted downshifting on the highway. 5th - 2nd doin about 100mph. the motor actually came out with NO damage as when the clutch engaged and tried to pull the motor to that rediculous rpm. the clutch actually gave out and shattered. both the clutch and flywheel shattered into a million pieces and blasted into the bell houseing leaving huge shards of metal stuck in it. one piece actually made it through the wall and stuck into the underbody of the car. :shock: :shock: :shock:
