Yea, I did that shit *once* and only once when I was 18. Took a honda up to 120-125 (speed limited), I swear it tool over a mile to stop. I ended up blowing through a interestion, and pissing my pants a little bit.Last edited by george graves; 04-02-2007, 12:52 PM.Originally posted by Matt-Bhey does anyone know anyone who gets upset and makes electronics?

fricken idiots. I can't say I haven't had my fair share of attempts at the sub $10k car landspeed record. But looking back- It's simply not the smartest thing you could ever do. I wish people like that would either die, (darwin style) or save it for the track. Although I must say that I prefer the latter...

Driving aggresively on the street is plain stupid. On the right road when no one is around, sure ok. I've yet to see the stretch of I5 in question that S4 boy spoke of truly clear of traffic. I still maintain that it's stupid though, there's far too many variables at play on the street, what if there's some gravel in your favorite corner or any of a thousand other what if's, Don't get me wrong I still put the pedal to the wood on the street but I damn sure don't take many chances, just not worth it anymore.sigpicFormer professional wrench thrower.

I hope this will discourage at least a few of you from speeding out on public roads... This happened this past fall to a friend of mine. Some people on here who go on VWvortex may have already seen this. Drew is a good driver, and knew how to handle his car... But he was going entirely too fast, in an area where he shouldn't have been. Now, months later... He is finally out of the hospital, following countless surgeries, skin grafts, and he still can't walk. He is in a wheelchair, and still has to start his rehabilitation. He was lucky... He's still alive, and will most likely come out of it with very few problems. But not everyone is that lucky.
Not only could he have killed himself... He could have killed someone else.
I once hit 140 in my old mk2 vr swapped GTI... I did that at 5am, on a wide open stretch of highway in the middle of nowhere. And now after what happened to Drew, I feel so stupid having done so.
Here's what his car used to look like...
...and here's what it looked like the night of the accident. I'm told it was even worse in person. His brother had to pull him out of the car, as it was on fire.
The paramedics and police said they are positive that the only thing that kept him in one piece, was the roll cage that had been put in a couple weeks before the accident.

How fast was he going? Your average rollcage is not too effective in a high speed accident. A 4 point or 6 point cage probably wont help you much in a 120mph crash. In fact there is a good chance the thing will either crush you or a tube will break and stab you (the break would be assuming the cage was welded by a amateur). Compare a rally car or other race cage to your average scca event cage and you'll see what it takes to make a cage high speed safe. Rally cages have the harness several feet back from the driver near the C-pillar to prevent the driver from contacting it.

I'm not going to lie, I get up to 120 a couple times a year, but it is always under the most perfect of conditions. I have had enough friends, acquaintances, and acquaintance's friends, that have been seriously hurt or killed, or have killed others due to driving like an idiot...
A friend of a friend is STILL in Prison...
In reality, In well maintained condition, our cars ARE safe to be driven at triple digit speeds. That is what they were designed to do. Our highways werent designed to accomodate that though. So if you step on it, just use good judgement.Joe Funk -- Portland Oregon
