i voted coupe, but a cabrio is the most fun as long as you're not a ginger. you can buy the hardtop for the winter and have the best of both worlds!

it used to be that a car with a B-pillar was a sedan and a coupe had no B-pillar (my '67 dart was a coupe). But safety regulations changed and all cars now have B-pillars, so that definition no longer applies to cars made today.
The definition today is a bit more complex, but E30 2 doors are still not coupes. Take an E36 coupe and sedan and compare them, they have entirely different sheet metal down to the fenders. E30s are all built exactly the same, except the doors.
Aside from that, look at any publication from the 1980s that reviewed the E30, or even DOT/Title records. The E30 is always listed as a sedan or saloon. Same with the 2002, same with the E21.. It didn't change until the 1990s.
