It will mostly be built as a casual dragger/jaw dropper. Will definitely see some drift events as well. This is our first shop car/rolling advertisement, so I figure we need something totally undriveably fast. Once it is turbo, the car will never see rain again.

so is there a thread on here that posts 1/4 mile times? I searched the track and autox section a bit and didn't find anything.

I haven't run my car yet since the nearest drag strip is a 2 hour drive away... Maybe after the new motor. Should be in the mid 13 sec range as it sits.

Have you searched for 1/4 mile threads? I just came across one by accident, I'm sure that there are a few around. Anyway GSTuning did the 1/4 in 13.27 with his S50B30 (or B32, not sure which).

well I'm looking specifically for m20 1/4 mile times since that's what I'm plannin on buying. Probably going to go turbo (don't worry, I'll do it right or die trying) since it seems to be the best solution in my quest for power. Lookin for 200+ rwhp.

You can definatly make it faster. How fast depends on your budget and mechanical abilities. If you have a 325 you cant get alot more out of it. I built a motor for an Alpina 323 years ago starting with a 325 block. The motor became a stroked 2.9 and was an absolute torque monster. An m50 or m52 conversion will also work well. These motors can be had for well under a $1000.

With a N/A m20 it takes LOTS of work to get to 200 whp. You would still be looking at 14 sec passes.

I dont know if this has been sugsted yet but in my quest for power im aiming for a
vq35de out of a 350z or g35 there was everything from the block all the way back to the axles for $1200 it would take some work but that sounds like some bang for your buck right there.

You had to find the riciest examples possible, huh? lol

There are cleanly modified civics, itr's and neons that are just plain superior in every way to our cars. In some instances, it takes more skill to make a FWD car go fast around a track, because the front wheels are doing everything. I hardly think they are "gay".

...well the ones in your pics are, at least.

that motor sucks massive cockles. That has got to be one of the worst, most inefficient motor swap ideas ever. Seriously.... if you don't want to spend a lot of money just m50 swap it... I think anyone who could afford an e30 could save and go m50 easily. Not saying an m50 is on par with the power of the vq35, but that motor seriously sucks donkey balls. I would sooner use a honda or vw v6 than that piece of trash.

And "some work" is a gross understatement. Unless you can do 100% of the work yourself, and you value your tools and time invested at like tree fiddy an hour... that project would be a much greater investment than going with an s50/s52. Why not just go ls1... a great motor, that can be had just as affordably... and will actually be capable, and be fairly simple to fit well :dot:

Including a Mini Cooper and other very good handling FWD cars that will put your E30 to shame ?

yes, they can be fast. But a fast (I'm talking 500+rwhp) e30 is a pretty rare thing.

that's because usually only shops and people with the money build dragsters, which is usually what you're building when you are talking about that kind of power to weight. That said, people usually only build really weird cool cars into beasts, or current production heavy hitters like vette's and mustangs into 800whp machines... that's just how it has always been for the most part.

Look at it this way. The speed doesn't matter because you should be racing in a class that the car fits. so if your "slow" so will they. and you'll just out handle them.
