E30's have plenty of power to have fun with stock. And there are plenty of great turbo M20 cars around the board that have around 250 whp, which is plenty to street rice any Civic or Integra out there..

Or you can swap in an S50/52 from an E36 M car and make that little E30 car fly. An M5x swap from a regular E36 should be cheap enough to complete, and with S50 cams those are plenty of fun as well.

Building any car to be fast takes money. Cars that are already fast already cost a lot of money. Civics are rice-burners.

Its not how you stand by your car... Its how you race your car, You gotta learn that

If you think that Civics and Integras and "modded" neons (remember they are still neons, get an SRT4) are ooo...so fast, go get one. Don't waste your time with a 20 year car that you hope you don't have to put any money into.

And honestly, when are you going to get to top speed? I just hope its on some kind of track

x2 that. plus a car running 15s isn't fast, it's barely quick imho.

I would say it's only worth doing if you are going to run atleast low 14s or better.

I don't street race, per say. I have and might dick around, but that's not the point of my car. I think an E30 could be a nice dd. I'm not stupid, I know it would cost more, especially since it is more of a restoration than a "rice-burner". I just want to know what reasonable aspriations are for these cars. I agree, sub 15 isn't fast at all, but it's just a benchmark I threw out there. As far as top speed goes, it's a number that I'm sure most car enthusiasts enjoy knowing. And it would matter to me, regardless. Are you telling me that since you probably don't go faster than 90 on the track that anything above that doesn't matter? Are you trying to tell me that people who drive souped up cars never use their upper power band? I didn't come in here trying to pick a fight. I'd just like to know some things, as a bimmer "noob". and for that upper level, yeah, I've cruised around with friends at speeds in excess of 140 (the interstate at 3am is surprisingly empty). Take it for what it's worth. I'm almost sorry I asked.

            PS I don't think I'd ever drive a neon.

We know you aren't picking a fight, the civic/integras are just WAY different cars.

I have no problem with someone going excess of 1?? mph but its really stupid to do it on the highway or any road for that matter. Just do it on a track so none of us are in the way when you kill yourself. No, I am not saying that racing is stupid, I have ALWAYS wanted to be a racecar driver but there is a place to do it and its not with buddies in the city/highways

When someone comes in here and asks..well I dont want to get beat by civics and neons and shit, people usually think that you are a 12 year old that just watched Fast and Furious.

If you want a car that will be reliable, fun, has a lot of people that love the car and have the plus of not having the same car 600K other people have get an e30.

great, thanks. I agree, racing or cruising on public roads is stupid, but I grew up in Iowa. There are no tracks. If there had been, I'd have been all over them. And saying that I don't want to be beat by hondas is a valid point. Realise I'm getting out of that crowd, and I know they'll wanna fuck with me. I just told my buddy with a turbo civic that I might be getting a bimmer and his first words were "let's race when you get it". No, I won't be racing where I can put others in danger, notice I said empty interstate. There just aren't any other options. E30s are hot cars, and I look forward to learning more about them and hopefully getting one.

Not sure why people care much about out-dragging hondas from light to light...get a big block chevy.

I'll be kicking ass and taking names on the track, where it means something.

im not building a drag car, i want something for the twisties. I already know that e30s can have excellent handling, but no power to back it up is just no fun. I didn't realize that wanting a fast e30 would be so controversial. And again, it means something wherever you drive. For me, driving is about enjoying my car. I'm glad you go to the track, and I support that. However, are you going to tell me that you have NEVER have a friendly little burst from a green light with the car next to you? And i didn't mean just hondas, but again, I used them as an example since afterall they are the most modified cars.

you just asked a stupid question. of course an E30 can be fast.. it's just a matter of how much you want to spend.

but in the end it's mostly pointless. most people with "fast" cars have no idea how to drive them anyway..

you're right, i didn't pick my words well. it should have been something along the lines of how easy would it be to develop additional horsepower. My bad. Still, I got a lot of information out of this thread by catching attention with that title. I caught some flack too, but that's alright, car forums wouldn't be the same without it.
