One thing that the E30 has over those ricers is that its a very HEAVY car. So when you take that sharp corner, you will still be in your seat vs. taking a ricer around that same corner and losing your grip on the wheel because your center of gravity keeps shifting.
In the world of performance weight is the #1 enemy. What are you talking about?

            1. an e30 is not a HEAVY car

            2. weight is a bad thing for cornering or straight line performance

            3. what on earth are you talking about?

Don't get an e30 to be fast. Get an e30 to get an e30. I'm pretty sure everyone on this board first fell in love with the e30 before they ever even thought of how fast it would go, rather thinking "I've got to have that car". That's the way you should look at it. Fast comes second. I'm not quite sure what 3k will get you on a stock m20 or m42 or m10 because all my money has gone into my swapped motor, and it's not cheap. I think if you put 3k into your suspension and handling, just taking some nice curvy roads would make you realize the fun over going fast in a straight line. But to each his own. If your main priority is going fast in a straight line, get some american muscle
Perot isn't a Hillary hater, but he's not a fan either, relating the bumper sticker he received that reads: "Monica Lewinsky's Ex-Boyfriend's Wife for President."

yea going fast in a straight line is ghey its about the twisties
but dont go blasting off into the night trying to take every turn as fast as you can kuz youll kill yourself
LEARN HOW TO DRIVE YOUR CAR the best improvement that you can make for your car is to improve the DRIVER
then work on suspension as that will yield the most cost effective results because youd have to dump loads into the engine inorder to get adequate results. a chip headers exhaust intake yadda yadda isnt going to get you more than 20 hp MAYBE with a cam and some headwork and those things are gunna run you around 2k so the choice is yours

x2, theres much better cars if you want just a "fast" car. I have a s52 with a ton of bolt ons, its fast I guess, but not that fast.

I like the way they look, I've always wanted a bimmer, and I hear they handle well. I'm NOT dragging the car, damnit, I just wanted to know a little about how easy it would be to get some horsepower out of the thing. They are some of the greatest looking cars, imo, and they look fun. I've gotta get my buddy to let me drive his just to check them out first hand.

i spent less than 1500 on my turbo build, and i can tell you at 14psi, sub 15 1/4s are like sleeping.

and for the bimmer reliability....my father has an e36m3...stuck a copper headgasket in his basically stock s50 and then slapped a turbo on it. hes been running 12-13psi for about 50-60,000 miles and we finally blew the headgasket on this car because it was cold and it spiked.

i recently topped out at 145 (or atleast what the speedo said) in 5th...373 rear end, doin about 8psi of boost.

If/when I get an E30 (probably a 325is), I think a turbo set-up will help me be content. I'm looking into them, and it seems that the M20 engine can put out very respectable numbers without a whole lot of issues.
