That is awsome. Don't hate it because it is different. It is cool that you would think it is a POS, but when you are close it is a work of art.

        D'ya think?

What I meant to convey by my comment is that I think its ridiculous. Erik's copper car is far and away better than this. He took and chemically made an awesome effect. This thing is just, well, a poseur. Painting a car to make it look as if its rusted?

I really have never thought much of the "hoodride" style. I would not put Erik's bad penny into that category though.

No different than craftsmen who antique and distress furniture, or artists that age metal or other materials. It's a style and an aesthetic thing. Doesn't really matter how they achieve the effect, just that it looks authentic. For the style, it's very well done.

Took the words right out of my mouth. Even the music industry does stuff like that. Now that we have the technology to make recordings crystal clear, artists are starting to put the hiss and crackle noises back into the music.

I can appriciate what the painter was attempting to do, but somehow that just does not get it for me.. almost like there is something wrong with this picture but I just can't put my finger on it. I guess the best comparason would be with artists who specialize in doing faux marble and faux wood grain and comparing that to the kits that you can buy in Home Depot. You can buy the faux marble paint in home depot but it will not look as authentic as the work done by a guy who knows how marble is supposed to look.

And maybe its the same situation with this rust job- The painter has obviously mastered the ability to paint rust on the car but it does not flow across the car the same way that a neglected car would rust.

Hard work for a dirty look. I love it. Maybe they airbrushed bloodstains from their knuckles on the motor as well?

By that logic, Erik would have let the car patina itself over time, and not chemically rusted the process himself, controlling they pattern and look of the patina.

                          1) Move to a beach city

                          2) Use an orbital to remove all the clear coat

                          3) Sand off the paint in strategic locations

                          4) Park outside and throw buckets of salt water on her twice, once at 10PM and then again at 5AM

BTW, what kind of rims are those?

No, not really. Yes, Erik chemically accelerated that process. BUT, he did NOT paint the green over the copper to create the illusion of a patina. This guy airbrushed rust coloring onto the car to make it look rusted when it is not.
