Horrific Misuse Of The Right To Free Speech - On The Radio

This morning, on 960 WELI-AM (www.weli.com), the radio station played the sound clip of an American soldier's decapitation.

I am an American serviceman - I serve in the US Air Force, and I am thoroughly disgusted. My mother called me and told me she had heard the clip on the radio, sickened and near to tears - I cannot imagine her reaction had that been the sound of my voice during such a savage execution. They have obviously either failed to consider, or do not in fact even care about the families of our military members.

It is concrete in my mind that the radio station should be taken off of the air for such a tasteless, inhumane, and shameless broadcast.

No military member who serves on their behalf and in their defence should suffer such disrespect, especially at their hands. It is impossible for me to imagine that anyone would think to turn any person's death into such a spectacle, for entertainment value.

I can only hope that you will agree that this is not what the forefathers intended when they fought to provide us with free speech.

I wrote them a very angry e-mail, and also tried to call. I doubt that this will have any real effect.

    But I am horrified.

Turns out this individual was a civilian - the fact remains, this was unforgiveable.

Sounds like the radio station was pushing the boundaries of civility and decency. Definately complain to the FCC. I know that no TV station was going to replay the video during the evening news. I know the video is lurking on the Net somewhere at some terrorist sponsored website.

I disagree. Al Jazeera (however the hell you spell it) is broadcasting the pictures of the Iraqia being embarassed 24/7 and stirring up the whole arab world. I think it's about time we hear the atrocities these animals are capable of and get our citizens outraged. Too many Americans seem to be under the impression that we're bullying some poor simple folk over there. They need a good strong dose of reality to get them to accept what is really going on in that little cesspool corner of the world.

Today's media is on a mission to insulate us from anything "bad" that happens in the world and we're weaker for it. There is no possible way describing what happened there could come close to conveying the horror of what those butchers did to a civilian who was there to help the Iraqi people. The sound of that one man being murdered will do more to stregthen the resolve of anyone who heard it to stop terrorists than simply being told about the death of a hundred.

I heard it on the radio myself and the station that played it here gave ample warning that what they were going to play would be very disturbing and recommended that anyone that didn't want to hear it should tune out for a few minutes. If they just sprung that clip on their listeners they deserve to be taken off the air, but if they gave warning I don't think they should be punished.

VERY well said! :D I think its amazing how the media makes the US get a totally different story, I'm really getting sick of it. That...well, probably best to stick to this subject, I could go off. ;)

I do also agree though, that if the radio station didn't warn their listeners that they should be shut down - but, if they warned, it's perfectly fine.

I don't want to stir up a politcal debate of any kind - but I had to say what Tangent said is pretty much what I believe as well.

War is a VERY DIRTY GRIMY thing. Most do not want to deal with the reality of war hence the "watered-down" media coverages. I don't see the purpose of this thread though :?

How would you feel if you were in the military or knew someone in the military and saw the vid ?
Andre, pls delete the vid or someone lock the thread. Political debates on this forum always end up the same way....

Yes, I've been wrong this whole time, I agree now --- it's perfectly fine.

Tell you what - why don't you send a family member over there and have them executed on tape?

Then, we'll play the tape all over the world, on TV and on the radio, as a graphic and grim reminder to all about the horror of war.

While that happens, you can suffer the screams of your father or mother or brother or sister, every day, so that you too are reminded of the horror of war.

How's that sound? Is that perfectly fine?

Pull your head out of your ass.

I saw the video today thru classified channels. I am very pissed off, about this too. But they are playing tit for tat their. Instead of trying to rebuild their country into a better place they would rather live in chaos like animals.

Kinda wondering what will be coming out prison camp bullshit.
