politics and religion as topics in a debate..failure to mention greed, selfishness and ignorance not forgetting one sided accounts and lack of true knowledge but that of mass media, single sources and hearsay....

I am yet to see a successful debate on politics prior to 9/11 and politics and religion after 9/11 ever end sensibly on the net.... ring-a-ring-a-roses a pocket full of posies....

Ken, I have a right to my OWN opinion, and I have a right to air that opinion. Like I said before, "Not all Muslims are bad!" But I guess you must have missed that part. So you never answered my question, would you feel safe going over to Iraq now? There are plenty of good people over there "99% you say", but are there enough to protect you from these "few" extremists? Would they protect you? Or will they grag you through the streets until your flesh falls off? My comments are broad, frank, ignorant, naive, whatever you want to call them. But I know one thing for sure, our soldiers are over there, some of which are fathers, mothers, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, friends, etc. and a significant amount are being killed each day by this 1%. One percent.....? I don't think so........Bottom line is that no one knows what's actually going on over there, other than the soldiers themselves. So you can't sit hear and tell me I'm wrong and you're right.....

That is correct but now you are putting the cart before the horse. Look at the big picture and ask yourself how did we get to this point and what will we gain by continuing down this path?

Some people have forgotten that the Iraq invasion began while post 911 tempers were still high with the mission of stopping Saddam's weapons of mass destruction. As we have since learned, no significant evidence of WMD's were found. In fact, as I am aware there has been no direct link established between Saddam and 911 either. (Note that a domestic analogy to this would be the conviction and incarceration of a suspect without real evidence).

To re-justify the campaign, the Bush admin changed its tune to Iraq liberation from Saddam and giving its people the rights and freedoms championed by the USA. Ok fine. Why pick Iraq? There are lots of other countries with oppressed citizens. Additionally, Iraq has been left to simmer for a decade, why now the rush to go in unilalaterally and snub the international community in the process?

Now we have the prisoner abuse photos - but wasnt the campaign to establish american rights and freedoms for the people of Iraq?

If you do the math, none of it adds up. It looks more like the Bush admin has squandered the lives of its soldiers, huge sums of american's tax dollars, and the US's international reputation for its own personal agenda.

Are you in support of continuing tit for tat war like that of Israel vs Palestine because US soldiers have died? How many lives and how much money are you willing to spend? Lastly and most importantly, what do you expect to gain from it all, revenge, pride, saving face?

George, I don't think anyone is doubting how fucked up Iraq is right now. Obviously, if we went over there walking through the streets unguarded after visiting an uncle in Mosul who told us we were going to die, and then refused FBI and CIA transport, and then refused a plain out of Iraq, and then chose to continue walking unguarded through hostile territory, we likely would last just as long as Mr. Berg. But, I don't believe Ken is saying 1% of Iraqis are bad, but 1% of Muslims overall. A number, probably no greater than any other religion, just more active at the time being. Here's a fun fact, however...

The Council on American-Islamic relations estimates there are 1.200 billion muslims in the world. By the CIA factbook, the population of Iraq is 24,683,313. So, if we are thinking that only 1% of Muslims are Islamic fundamentalists, that equates to about 50% of the population of Iraq. Obviously that's an ignorant statement, but you get the point.
My mountains are better than yours.

Kris, that's a crazy fact! Who knows, it could be true..... The whole war just frustrates me. Nitrox, you're right. We really have no business being there in the first place but what can we do now? God forbid if we back out now and save lives, we'll ruin our rep.....like it hasn't been damaged enough.
