"lift throttle over steer" As you call it isnt anything to do with shifting down. That's just an unbalance caused by all the weight being shifted to the front of the car mid corner.

What you're thinking of is compression lockup, where you drop down a gear mid corner and the rear wheels lock up, either causing you to spin out.............or do a mad dorifto!

Both these methods can be used for drifting too.

some of you guys are confused. the entire point of heel/toe is to downshift BEFORE you get to the corner. it saves time because you are slowing down and shifting in the same motion - making you slightly faster out of the corner. it also SAVES wear on the tranny/clutch and drivetrain since you are matching engine speed with the transmission. and you're never supposed to downshift while you're IN a corner...

You are right sir. I didn't word that correctly.

            duh...lol j/p

but seriously, I know that your not supposed to shift during a turn or while your IN a turn, this for some reason has become instinct to me, I will ride my gear to the very last RPM until I get out of that corner, but why exactly is this?

When you lift your foot off the throttle mid corner, let's say in a right hand turn. All the weight is then transfered to the front, or rather front left of the car. This makes the car unbalanced and makes the rear end uber light.

To add to some of what was already said, if you downshift without matching RPM's you are also hurting your engine. An engine redlines at lower RPM's when it is being pushed vs. if it is doing the pushing. When I was in high school, my buddy destoyed the engine in his parents' Nissan sentra. The owners manual said that the maximum acceleration speed for 2nd gear was 55 MPH. But he didn't read the chart clearly because it had a double-bar graph that also indicated maximum downshift speeds (which was 30 MPH). So he goes down the highway doing 60-65, he prepares to get off at the exit ramp, shifts to neutral, coasts to about 50, shifts it into 2nd, and then about 3 seconds later, the camshaft and valves are trashed.

Yea, but that's a Nissan!!! I think we all have *nearly* money shifted at some point.

Nice avatar, Firestorm. So relevant! lol

NcTurnL - my car is low indeed. However, in that picture, my car is carrying about 500-600 lbs worth of crap that I own. (Loaded with me in it was about 3500 lbs - unloaded with me about 2970 lbs - not lieing, I weighed it! LOL) Hence, the reason for the Ultimate Moving Machine. :) When not loaded, my car has a nice amount of rake. But, loaded - it's nice and low in the rear. Frankly, I think that picture is badass. Nothing like tires on the roof of a sweet e30. hehehe

I've almost moneyshifted. Gettin ready to go to fourth, and I hear the motor reving up higher than I matched for and I'm like - WHOOASSss LOL

I dont think i've ever nearly money shifted before. The shifter in one of our other e30's has more slop than a 50 year old prostitute and i still havent managed to do it.

Those things have nothing to with chirping on the downshift if you revmatch properly.

As time went on, the factory developed the car each year, making it faster, more comfortable, and capable of handling at higher speeds.
You don’t want this. You want the trickiest, most dangerous, oldest model you can find. Only then can you prove to the world that you’re a man.

I'm saying if I DON"T rev match - the M30 is a beast. Apparently you never seen a m30 crank - it weighs in at more than a 17 year old emo kid

brakes stop the car, the clutch gets it going.

down shifting is not for daily driving. it never was, never will be.
Proper downshifting is just fine on a clutch.

I 100% disagree with your post and I ALWAYS downshift.
