    weekend woes

okay, so i call up my mechanic and ask him when he's available to do my RTABS/rear subframe bushings/brakes. he says, drop the car off on thursday and it should be done by friday evening. ok, so i drop the car off, and figure i'll bite the bullet and miss those 2 classes on friday (i didn't miss anything there)

so friday comes, i call him, and he says that he's still working on the car; that the job was more difficult than he had expected. This is where I start getting frustrated. First off, i hate having to rely on people because a. they usually don't come through for me, and b. i hate having to ask for rides.

they are closed on saturday so he says he'll call me sunday night. He never calls. I go up there right before they close and my whole rear axle is on the ground, my car on a lift, and he's just now draining my rear brake lines. on top of that, he says he lost one of the studs from my stud kit, so today i also have to call up vorshlag and see how much it would be to get one shipped (mechanic said he would pay for that, thankfully).

my question to you guys is...should i be worried at this point? he gave me another "it should be done by monday night" thing when i was up there on sunday. it was a pain getting a ride to school this morning, and my friend didn't even come get me so my mom had to take me and be late for work herself.

    thanks for the time r3v

Sounds like everything is fine, you just need new friends. If I asked a friend to give me a ride (especially for something as important as school/work), and I knew ahead of time they probably weren't going to come through - well, I wouldn't be considering them a friend.

That's also why you have 2+ vehicles. I understand not everyone can afford 2 vehicles, but if you are going to be upgrading and modifying one, there is no excuse (not sure if this applies to you).

Your mechanic is no different then any other business. Things come up, but they do what they can to get the job done. Delays happen sometimes.

You really have nobody to be mad at. And what should you be worried about? Your mechanic is actively working on your car. I'd rather him be working on my car when I arrive then have him busy calling me. If you feel he didn't get it done in a timely manner, take what you learned and move on. Your not going to tell him to put it back together with the old parts and get the job finished somewhere else are you?

yeah, when i went to see the mechanic the other night i knew that he had been working hard on finishing my car and that i couldn't get mad at him. i was more likely than not mad at myself for not planning better. if i had known that it would be in the shop for 2-4 days then i would have scheduled off for work and done it when i didnt have any school.

I'm sure he is working as fast as he can. I bet he has other smaller stuff, like oil changes and tires to do to. Also, that work is hard and time consuming anyways, so this delay is not suprising.

How much is he charging? If you don't mind.

If its already on the lift and all torn apart he will be finishing it soon. No mechanic wants to just let a car sit on a lift in their shop taking up space, it will be done Monday when he says as long as no issues come up, like waiting for parts and whatnot.

            Also, your friends suck.

i supplied all the parts, but ya. he's only charging me $50.00 an hour. i've been to other shops in the area and they ranged between $75-95 an hour. plus, this guy does bmw's and used to work for the stealer..maybe he's using old factory tactics! j/k

gtech over on 75 and spring valley. apparently he is a second cousin to one of my mom's good friends. said he used to work for classic before he quit. seems like a nice guy though, i may have just had unrealistic expectations. he did do a good job installing my front shocks/springs/CAB/CA's/tie rods/sway bar.

                    You're not serious , are you ??
Those guys live and are based like 15 minutes from you .

Also in the future be aware that I could run it through my shop and charge you $50 hourly like I do my trade/fleet accounts .

Or I can always do it personally on the evening/weekend for like $150 per hour . :D

it is a big job, if the mechanic hasn't done it before on an e30, I wouldn't be surprised if it takes him alot longer than expected.

Atleast he's not charging you extra right?

i'm waiting for him to call me today if it gets done today. then i'll see how much it's going to cost me. i hope what i budgeted will suffice. if not, i have some extra i can withdraw from the bank, but that's what i was saving for my tuneup and timing belt job. :(

ok, just got the call.. he said it was a 12-15 hour job and it's $650.00

thankfully, i have enough to cover it.

he did say, however, that there is a sound coming from the rear when he drove it, and said it may be the differential or the rear right wheel bearings.
