Looking in the parts for sale on r3v I noticed something. Three 325ix's were currently being parted out. I see 325ix's being parted out constantly. This worries me. I love my 325ix, compare it to my friends rwd e30 in the summer and I cannot wait for winter. I do not know why any one would not up these cars. I know they all cannot be salvaged but if possibly a few less of these cars could go to the junkyard and a few more get new trasfercases I would be happy. This in lies the problem, critical parts for the 325ix are far to expensive for the average e30 owner. The truth is, sometimes more money can be made parting these rare cars out than selling them as a working whole. I know there are a few 325ix OG's online I would like to know what you think. What does the general e30 community think about 325ix's?
The 325ix, does it die early?

They just suck.... that's why they get parted... (joking)
The one I posted for parts, was purchased at an insurance auction (hit in the side).... not sure about the others.... could just be a coincidence...
Oh yeah.... need any parts? (shameless plug)

I think the ix is sort of silly and I'd definitely NEVER consider an AWD Bimmer, unless my wife wanted one. You can do just fine in the snow with a RWD car, I've done it since I started driving and never had issues, and this is in Colorado.

Wierd being they said this on the IX registry.
"Until '90 or '91, the only colors availble were red, black, white and silver. Later, a few other colors were offered, including a beautiful dark metalic blue/purple."Comment

the general E30 community doesn't care - and I don't really either. I have mine, and the other 99% are pretty much junk by now, except the few that have actually been taken care of. a lot of them have been wrecked recently (or driven into the ground).
definitely not a car for the average guy who can't locate the oil pan drain bolt (and yes, I've been asked that one - many times).Comment

I have family in Maine and no one in Northern new england wants a rear wheel drive car when it snows. Easy to get stuck on steep driveways which they have a lot of. Everyone drives subarus and saabs out there. I always wanted to get an ix coupe and through a m3 fender kit and make a rally car. Would not be the best rally car but at leat it would be a BMW.Your signature picture has been removed since it contained the Photobucket "upgrade your account" image.

I originally wanted an ix, and after looking high and low abandoned the search. Most are rust buckets (for obvious reasons) and the transfer case and viscous coupling seem to be parts that need very attentive care. Around the age that these cars are, almost all of them need to be replaced (unless properly maintained, of course). As to all the parting out, I'm just assuming the cost of TC/VC and rust a lot of times is greater than the cost of the vehicle.

I picked an ix because, its my fancy dd and i can drive it whenever. except 1ft + of snow. but that rarely happens here in KY. But ill prolly still try. and in the rain i like to just take of instead of spinning. esp up inclines. awd drifts are also fun and interesting. I have a rwd e30 also for my eventually track/ street car. the look on peoples faces as your passing them with at least 3 wheels spinning, but you know most the time its 4, a rare occasion of 3, is just so awesome.
EDIT: also the rear wheels walking while you get a lil bit of torque steer with the front tires spinning is an amazing feelingComment
