The Official 2008 F1 Series Thread

The 2007 season ended nearly two months ago (man....has it been that long already?) and with some behind-the-scenes seat shuffling going on, I figured it would be a good time to begin a new thread for the 2008 season since winter testing will commence within the next month. I have one simple request for the mods: please sticky this thread so it doesn't get buried later on.....then feel free to 'unsticky' it after the conclusion of the 2008 season. I hope this gets taken into consideration :-D

With that said, the most anticipated news regarding drivers' assignments for 2008 has to be where Alonso would be going. Well, it looks like the speculating and rumors can be put to bed once and for all.....

Motorsports coverage includes news, highlights, rankings and more spanning NASCAR, Formula 1, NHRA, ARCA, MotoGP, IndyCar and more auto racing circuits.

Don't miss a Formula 1 moment – with the latest news, videos, standings and results. Go behind the scenes and get analysis straight from the paddock.

I wonder if Nelson really likes this idea. It's a fact that FA is going to be a centered driver, all the attention is going to be him winning a wDC. I wonder if kov will go to MClaren, I hop so I think he is a really good driver and probably get along with hami.

I think Heiki will end up at Mclaren. Im upset, i wanted to see Alonso end up at some third rate team. Not because i dont like him, but i think it would make for a real interesting underdog type season that would make even myself root for Alonso.

      So what teams are named?

      Ferrari: Massa and Kimi
      BMW: Nick and Robert
      Mclaren: Hamilton and ? [Heiki]
      Renault: Alonso and ?
      Honda: Button and Rubins [maybe]
      RBR: DC and ?

I find it pretty sad that we see both Fisi and Ralf looking for jobs and test driving for Force India. Both of those driversd have been wasted talent for years, fisi more so than ralf.

Edit: on the topic of possible driver assignments, there was a blurb or two about Ralf looking into McLaren. I think Heiki would be a better fit with that group. He's more of a technically-inclined driver.

Force India, sounds like for a debuting team they have some excellent views, a very level, calculating man at the head of the team.

Unless they cheat like TR and Super best friends I don't seem them moving forward. With Fisi and Ralph looking to get seats there, I would defiantly be a surprised if they scored a point in 08.

that team changes hands every year now, they will likely be dead last all season, although it might be interesting to see what fisi can pull out of it. I don't expect much from RS.

I wanted the same thing but for the opposite reason, I wanted him to be at the back of the field in a Toyota to finally prove that he isn't a great driver, he just has had good teams/cars backing him ;)

But I am happy he's back at Renault, now I have my least favorite driver on my least favorite team. It makes it much easier rooting for the same car and driver to lose an engine on race day :D

I heard rumors of JB, but that would be a bit of a longshot for him.

                            heikki kovalainen most likely

I think Alonso has some talent, but hes an asshole. When he first came on the scene i was a fan, he had some promise and although i am a huge schumi fan, i was kinda tired of seeing him win.
