Where's the break down for the dumbasses who will drive an extra mile to save $.02 a gallon for gas. Hahaha j/k... If you ever hear someone say that that they'll go an extra mile for that much of a difference remind them its __ x .02 = less than a dollar.
Here in Bend, Fred Meyer just put in a gas station. You get I think 5 cents off a gallon if you have their "rewards" card. People wait in line for 45 fucking minutes just to fill up there. So if you have a 12 gallon tank and fill up from empty you are saving a whopping $0.60 and had to wait for fucking ever to get gas.
I only get top tier approved. Mostly only go to shell now. I still only get 87 in the M20 and 91 as required in the M50. I thought Costco was alright because atleast you knew it was pretty new gas since the tanker seems to come by like twice a day.

costco was pretty decent in the stock motor, but my stroker hates it. I think around here it comes from tesoro.
There are a few 76 stations that sell 100 octane. Tried it on my 1.8t and on my bike but did not notice that much of a difference at sea level. I personally hate all the crap additives that most companies use. Especially shell. Just think, next year MTBE will have a national ban and we will have ethanol enriched fuel.

C6 Corvette General Discussion - 'Top-tier' gas is nothing more than a marketing ploy... - I have almost 20k miles on my 05 C6 & have put in 'top-tier' gas less than a handful of times. I primarily use Arco or Safeway gas, as they are usually at least 15 cents less a gallon. While removing my intake, I fully inspected...
^_^
Read that forum. Made '06 by Corverttians on exact same topic.
Some of the members claimed that they were oil refinery experts. Many differed on that topic.
What they somewhat agreed to was that taking the cheap stuff was like taking a gamble. The cheap stuff looks good now, but in the long run, maybe it will kill your engine, maybe it won't.

Chevron is the cheapest decent gas here. $3.61 for premium. Arco is shit gas, they're the cheapest by about $.15 but I don't go near the place.
There's only a few different places gas comes from. Arco, and BP, and I think there were one of two others are the same crap gas, Shell, Texaco, Chevron, Safeway, Costco and Sams Club, and I think Tesoro, all the same gas, and it is all fine.

Higher octane isn't gonna help you if your car or bike is designed for lower octane, ie stock e30s need 87 octane, running 91 will do nothing, I've actually heard it could be worse than 87 for the engine
Oh, what the heck - I'll throw a little something in the mix.
So far Nando has the closest to correct info I'm seeing here. I'm 3rd generation oil/light hydrocarbon refining family, so I have a decent base of knowledge, and what has changed through the years - my dad/grandad have forgotten more about leaded fuels than I know, but realistically the easy answer is to find a gas you & your motor like, and just say with it.
We each have mods that might exempt certain gases, so just shop around & see what you like. So far I'm personally happy with Chevron supreme (92-93 in WA) in both my Landcruiser/1FZ-FE, my old S14 motor, and my quad (with a little toluene-search, no PM's).
I throw a full bottle of Techron in about every 2000 miles, but just to keep my valves & stem seals clean & happy. I'd checked it about 2 years back, which was about 2 years after a headgasket job & I borescoped a few cylinders - looked as good as the day I re-assembled. No carbon on the pistons or up on the bell of the valves I could see open.
I choose Chevron because of the Techron, like Nando touched on. Additives vary wildly, based on the corrosion I've seen on the outer piping systems for the 250gal totes in the refineries.
The big thing is just to make sure your fuel system in your car is healthy, then go worry about the diffs between mid-grade & supreme. Go change your fuel filter if you haven't a clue the last time it was changed.
It's not how you handle the good times, but the faith you keep in the bad that defines you.
