I drove for over 3 years without a lic and never a ticket. You just have to be careful. Now that I have a lic, I still drive the same as if I didnt have one. Seems to work for me. Also if I do see a cop I downshift and tug the e-brake a lil.

Don't swing in and out of lanes, and pray for luck.

testimony. i was driving 80 in a 60 and got pulled over. he started telling me he was goin to give me a ticket so i told him i was PASSING and he told me "well next time dont be so wreckless by doing 80, in that case i can let you go with a warning."

        radars and jammers = fail!

that shit is stupid and by the time a laser detector goes off, the cop has you. just learn patients and show some concern for the other people on the road. speed limits arent there just to slow you dwn, but they serve a safety purpose.

For the record, I never said radar jammers were legal(actually I'm not gonna check if I did or not, but if I did, I didn't mean to) laser jammers are legal in some states

Seattle, how do these "laser jammers" work? Wait, they don't, that's the only reason they aren't illegal. How exactly do you plan to jam a laser signal? It's an instant on beam that hits you and reads your speed. And yes you said something to the effect of "blah blah blah Mulhollad you are so dumb, I'm so much smarter than you, jammers are legal in some states"

Then the radar/laser detector and ex-law enforcement guy chimed in and backed me up, then instead of growing a pair and owning up to your ignorance you say something else to the same effect.

They don't work, and radar detectors are only to catch lazy pigs sitting with the radar running, they don't do crap against a properly used gun. Anything claiming to be a jammer legally can't work, and logically doesn't since it is literally impossible to design one to block more than 1 signal if that.

Laser jammers work.. was tested by a friend with his friend who is a NY state trooper. Couldn't get a read on him until he was much closer.

....how close is "much closer"... regardless, if it still worked up close, it didn't really work did it? Wat back in the day when they used k band there did a test with a radar jammer that was able to block a 4 ton tracter at a range of 50 feet or so from like 8 of 9 radar detectors, but they don't run k band anymore, so that's a little pointless. And again, it doesn't matter what you think you're hiding from or detecting or jamming, if a cop sees you speeding he'll pull you over. There is no checks and balances that requires a radar gun print out or something. Anyone who spends money of any form of "jammer" is an idiot, and as such an idiot, will still get tickets as opposed to just being smart and getting out of a ticket. What are you going to do? Tell a cop "Bullshit you lasered me at 87 in a 60, I have a laser detector!" He'll say "take it to court" have you sign off on the ticket, and if you do take it to court, a judge will laugh at you for sucking at life.

Lots of interesting points being brought up here - I will chime in with my $.02 on what I practice when behind the wheel.

                  1) It was mentioned that "I always keep my eyes on the rear view mirrors." Great idea, but the problem with doing that too much is if you're paying more attention to what is happening behind you instead of what's in front of you, chances are you just might roll up on a po-po where he may have been watching you in his mirrors the whole time while monitoring his speed.

                  2) In your local area where you drive often, pay attention to areas where you see cops parked along side the road - they usually pick these spots for a reason and it ain't the scenery. There are a few stretches of freeway in my area where I can usually expect to find a cop patrolling or sitting on the side of the road. More often than not I spot them as I'm driving along.

                  3) Learn to recognize the vehicles they use. On the freeways in my area, the California Highway Patrol use Ford Crown Vics (two-tone & all white, some with rooflights, some without), BMW motorcycles (white fairing with dark uniform behind it is a clear give away), and they also use Dodge Ram trucks - mainly to pull over 18-wheelers for speed and load violations but I've also seen them with cars pulled over. A few months ago my brother saw an undercover CHP with someone pulled over getting a ticket - the po-po was in a late model Toyota Camary with tinted windows and flashing headlights. Scary thought since Camarys are really common around here.

                  4) Don't drive like an ass. This means sweeping across two or three lanes suddenly, passing on the right (slow lane), cutting off people or tailgating. I always shake my head in disapproval when I see some schmuck trying to pass a bunch of cars in the slow lane while traffic is trying to merge on to the freeway - I've even seen some honk and give the finger because the merging motorist had the audacity to get on the freeway at the time this schmuck was having a Tony Stewart moment. Sheeeesh

                  5) Radar detectors - I have a V1 but I don't use it every single time. I mainly take it with me when I'm going out of town into places where I don't know where to expect Smokey to be lurking. It has saved me from a few tickets now....definately paid for itself already. I know they aren't 100% fool-proof in keeping me from getting a ticket so I don't use it as an excuse to be completely reckless on the road.

                  6) Using the e-brake and/or downshifting. I suppose this can work if used effectively. For me, downshifting is absolutely out of the question because my exhaust already emits more than enough noise....shift down and the noise goes up - a dead giveaway. Take that into consideration if you're running a well broken-in Stromung like myself or a Tri-Flow exhaust. Hands down these are some of the loudest off-the-shelf cat-backs for E30s.

                  7) Front-side window tint. Check the laws in your area for this - out here you can get away with only a marignal percentage of tint on the drivers' and passengers' door windows. If these are tinted dark, and a cop is looking to fund the state coffers, you will get pulled over. I personally know of 4 people this has happened to and have been ticketed.

So the cliffnotes version of my post is: don't do things to make yourself standout on the freeway which will get a cops attention and you'll be ok.

sumrnitz, it was great to get your insight! The only reason I have a radar detector is to try to save me while driving across the country - and it has. Believe it or not, my V1 has saved me from officers on the highway using instant-on - MULTIPLE times. I get a strong reading, slow down, couple miles later, he hits me as he passes - but I have already slowed down. That's where my V1 comes into play.

I don't use it around town, and I really don't speed much in town - normally no more than 10 over, and I'm just overly observant.

However, on the interstates, I do haul. But, give me a break - driving thru Wyoming or Montana, there's a car every 1/2 mile - I can't go 75, I'll go insane! So, I usually try to average 80, and try to keep my speed above 90 most of the time...

But, if anything, just be observant. My V1 is sitting safely at home - this way there's no reason to break into my car. :)

malibu's seriously thats retarded my. Dads a cop and he tells me about all the cars. The interpids can't take curves in the rain cause they are FWD.
The crown vics are the 2nd best just that they are so big they a like an average rank. The Chargers are amazing they got AWD, Hemi, and also not alot of people know what the headlights look like behind them at night. So it makes the chances of peolpe not changing their driving style at night when the cops come up behind them. I can't wait for dad to get his aagghhh.
