Parts at a dealership is boring, but it pays *ok* while I slowly drag my ass through school. One positive note is all the hot bitches who drive BMWs, that I dont have to deal with, only have to stare at. I can see the service waiting room from where I sit. I cant imagine diong this for the rest of my life though.

Some people still complain but I wonder if they've ever had a shitty retail job that pays $9 an hour. Every time I go to a store the first thing that pops into my mind is "damn, I'm glad I don't work retail!"
I used to do that for $8.35.

I work as a graphic designer and front-end web designer. I maintain about 10 slow sites and 3 sites I update daily. Its a home-run business so my boss is cool, we work from his office in his awesome pad, he makes me lunch because he's an awesome cook, and an all around great guy.

I can take time off and there are no problems like normal jobs. Its a very relaxed job and I love it. I work anywhere from 25-35 hours a week and it works for me.

They pay more than squat. But Where I live, it is expensive to live. If I lived in the valley, or elsehwere, where its nice and inexpensive, this could be a career. But in the valley if you make $4k a month, youre living VERY nice. Here you have to make around that to make it decently.

This thread is doing pretty well. I didn't think a ton of people would post.

I love and hate my business. Detailing cars everyday can take its toll on you physically and mentally. But one or two cars a week usually have that Amazing turn around; and it reminds me why I love detailing. Its also very rewarding when the client's spouse calls you when they get home just to complement the work!

Im also a BMW/Volvo mechanic, under the table right now. But its not quite to the point where I would like to merge the two businesses yet. I need to rent a shop sooner or later...

I work in a hospital pharmacy compounding IV mixtures. It is interesting with high risk, which I like. The pay is not great (less than $20hr) but it gets me through school, and it is great experience, as I hope to obtain a position in pharmacy school soon to become a Pharmacist.

Yep, 4k in San Antonio for a single person would be above average. I didnt realize the cost of living in Cali was so high. I just realized the post time shows 2:07pm, its really 5pm my time.

I love what i do. I own a painting and restoration business that i built up from my father, who did it on the side for 29 years while working as a lieutenant in the fire department. I have an M.B.A and when i tested the job market in 04' I was disgusted and discouraged, so i began running jobs for my father and now i have gorwn the business to a respectable level. I have 4 full time guys, 2 vans, and love the freedom and flexibility that comes with owning your own business and working out of a van.

I actually obtained my e36 cab in exchange for painting a BMW techs house in 06' (the job cost me $2600 out of pocket for material and labor). I stopped going to price out new work in the BMW's, however, because people thought i was always trying to screw them with my quotes, seeing that i am only 27 and ALL BMW's must cost a fortune to own...

I think you mean fridge benefits. Haha

Yeah those northstar motors make me want to puke. Only thing worse than that is pulling any motor out of a ford aerostar. V6 or 4cyl, they all make me want to have someone let the jack down on me.

Wait what? You're a mechanic at a shop and make $9/hr?

I'll go ahead and not tell you what good tech's make in the small college town I live in.
