518 or 520 diesels didn't come out til late 90's, right? Like e39s.
Trivia Question: Was the s14 the only motor used in only one chassie by bmw?

Sure, but if such E34 518tds existed, I am sure it would have been listed in said list, having different engine parts than the 524td/525td and the 518i.
Who knows, maybe it does exist though.- Trey

I thought the South African 325is came with 2.7 Alpina engines?!?!?
Yea aluminium.
in South Africa they didn't get the M3 so they specced up a 325i with some fruit and called it a 325iS
Bonnet, door skins and front wings are imported aluminium alloy. Car weighs 1147 kg with PAS, air con, electric windows, LSD, leather.
The suspension is Full M3 gear with alpina sways.
Engine is an early spec Alpina C2 2.7 motor - td crank, with alpina rods and pistons, with a stock 325i head, and a cam of unknown spec, its racier than a stock 325i cam, but less than a genuine alpina cam. Motor was produced alongside the alpina motors also. Modified motronic management.
500 produced in 03/1990, known as a 325iS.
in 03/1991 and 05/1991 there were two more batches produced, known as the 325iS Evo. Both identical batches.
But, informally, the 1990 cars are known as Evo 1's and the 1991 cars are known as Evo 2's.
The Evo 2 spec differs in that they returned all all steel body parts, had an adj front splitter under the m-tec 2 front, the engine was the full alpina motor, with alpina head, using larger valves, cam and standalone alpina management. They also got an M30 throttle body and AFM.
Power for the Evo 1 was 194hp and 265Nm, Evo was 204hp and 270Nm.

I have one with a bit of gray area - the X5 4.6iS had a 4.6L V8 designed by Alpina, assembled in Germany. It was used in other Alpina models but the 4.6iS was the only BMW that got the motor.Brian
89 M3 2.5 - 91 318iS - 91 325iX - 06 X5 4.8iS - 03 525i Touring - Some 91 850s, and a few parts cars...Comment

so E34 got S38B36 and S38B35 only while the E28 and E24 got the B35.
M88 was in the early euro M535/635 as well as the M1 so it's not so uniqueComment

The E34 M5 came with the S38 B36 (from 4/88 until 4/92) and with the S38 B38 (from 7/91 until 7/95). For some reason there was a period of time when both motors were available for non-US bound cars.
The E24 M6 and the E28 M5 got either the M88/3 or the S38 B35 depending on where the car was being shipped to. The M88/3 was a non-catalytic converter car and the S38 B35 was a catalytic converter car.
I am aware that the M88/3 was used in the E24 M6, E26 M1, and the E28 M5. I listed it to tell you that two different motors were available for the E24 M6 and the E28 M5.- Trey
