5-600 you say? I will have to look into that. my brakes say girling on them.

Where in nyc are you located? Looks like a great car for the money! Be sure to get the timing belt/water pump replaced asap for piece of mind

Yeah, what I'd do in your case is just remove the old rotors and calipers. The calipers may work alright, but between the unsightly surface rust and the numerous components that have been sitting for a while, it would be best to just replace them.

Pick up a set of Brembo slotted front rotors and a set of OE replacement rear rotors, get a set of Goodridge stainless steel lines, a set of Axxis Ultimate pads (f/r), bleed the brakes and use ATE Superblue fluid.

That's my opinion, though. It's a good setup for DD and the occasional DE or so. It shouldn't run you over $600 if you can find someone selling some calipers in the FS section.

Back in May I picked up a '87 325 that had sat for over 2 years for $500. No rust at all, but still needed everything replaced that was suspension, brakes, or maintenance related.

I say this because from my experience, be prepared to put in at least a couple thousand dollars into it to bring it up to spec...and this is with you doing all the labor.

Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the E30 community...but I have to say good luck-you have your work cut out for you with that one.

A good rule of thumb with most cars (including the E30) is: you either pay a lot now and pay little later or pay little now and pay a lot later.

You scored a sweet deal. In parts, you would easily break into the black. But, once you throw a few thousand into it, it will certainly be a nice little car that you can sell for profit.

I just got back from the shop, and It's in working order, the brakes are not perfect, but with the idea TDE gave me, and the responses and input from you guys, that will change, I think I will pick up all the parts for brakes and have them installed when I get the suspension parts. I am ordering the brembo slotted front rotors and solid rears from tirerack, I have credit with them, but if there are any other places that sell them for cheaper, please post it up or send me a pm. and I am dumping a lot of money into the car at once, to get it proper, i dont believe in holding off until something breaks. after the car is mechanically sound, its onward to the body, and interior. I need to strip everything out and clean everything out. Thanks again guys.

EDIT: I would not think about selling this car, I've wanted one for too long.

You don't need the slotted rotors, Plain stock rotors are just fine, If it is a street car with street pads you wont be 'out-gassing' enough to warrant them(Not that modern pads out-gas that much if at all). Some believe they crack easier aswell. I would go with plain rotors, Whatever pads you want, A good bleed and SS lines. You can also upgrade to the 25mm M/C if you want less pedal travel. And you can just clean the calipers you have up and get rebuild kits, Only takes a few hours to clean and rebuild all 4 if you take your time, Will save money.

I order all my parts through either pelican or bma.

I've not heard of slotted rotors being prone to cracking issues, I have heard of that occuring with drilled rotors doing that though. If he plans on keeping the car, which it sounds like he does, he ought to just replace most of the braking components. There's no reason having some old parts and some new parts unless he's a bit strapped.

I'm not strapped, and I dont like to mix and match components, in the sense of new and old, might as well change everything out and drive knowing my brakes are in outstanding working order, brakes are one thing i refuse to fuck around with. where can i get the goodridge ss brake lines? tire rack doesnt have them for my car, along with axxis pads
