As for carfax, I have every piece of paper for this car, I have all service records in the bmw pamphlets and even the receipt for the first paper plates put on it, it even states where it was bought from. Ill post the name later.

It was very popular for the dealers to stick the M badges on the trunk lids in the 80's. I even stuck one on my E21 I drove at the time. It didn't mean you were trying to pass off your car as an M car, because in the mid-80s there was only the M1. It meant that you were a dedicated BMW enthusiast and at club events in the mid-80s you would have seen many 3 series with an M badge on the back.
