It was very popular for the dealers to stick the M badges on the trunk lids in the 80's. I even stuck one on my E21 I drove at the time. It didn't mean you were trying to pass off your car as an M car, because in the mid-80s there was only the M1. It meant that you were a dedicated BMW enthusiast and at club events in the mid-80s you would have seen many 3 series with an M badge on the back.
Nice find, BTW!
Das Truth........... I had saw many in the 80s with not only the M badges, and the MB type gold grill badges in the space to the inside of the high beams. Thought they looked goofy then personally...but it is what it is the badging thing. Who cares....besides the moral indignation of seeing a probable poser trying to pass off a car for something it isn't, or and equally as troubling in a not really givin a shit way, someone that just does't get it really.
Haha I really want to see a scan of that $8500 appraisal.. And you dont think that you could sell an eta in that condition for $10k? I understand being emotionally attached to a car, so I guess that could make sense in that case..
That's cool, more power to you. The original hex bolts have been known to shear off and can wedge under the cam and destroy your head. Thats why later engines came with torx style headbolts. This is old school information but your car is old school with original hex bolts. Not sure if its a concern for the more tame ETA engine though.
The intake is wet probably because of the cold start valve.
