The ix is no different, you are just looking for a TRAY, when it is really more of an AREA where the battery would go on the eta and M10 powered cars. Just a difference in wording and how you are picturing it in your head.
no, it is different. the engine bay is very different, the strut towers are not the same for one, and there is a washer fluid resivior where the battery tray would be on a normal E30. AFAIK, no ix's ever came with engine bay mounted batteries, possibly some of the early 86 and 87 euro models did, but I doubt it (the ix is already a bit front heavy).
trust me, there are many parts on the ix that are different that you wouldn't expect, like coolant hoses. there are also many parts that are the same, but I won't get into that..
