A stock 09 ZR1 ran a 7:26 at the 'ring on stock run-flats with a test engineer behind the wheel, despite almost r3ving it at the 2:00 minute mark:Bah! I'd rather have one of these...

I'll keep that in mind next time I'm looking to buy a car that was built specifically to beat the GTR around the Nurburgring. That's about the same time I'll sign up for a CTS-V because it was also faster around the Nurburgring than the M5. Where did I say an amateur was driving?I'll keep that in mind next time I'm looking to buy a car that was built specifically to beat the GTR around the Nurburgring. That's about the same time I'll sign up for a CTS-V because it was also faster around the Nurburgring than the M5. GM makes me laugh.
And if you think that guy was an amateur driver you're dreaming.
A GM Test Engineer was driving. I said put a pro behind the wheel and some non run-flats on it and it would probably run 7:1x
Jim Mero is not a professional driver.
And the ZR1 was built specifically to beat the GTR at the 'ring?
Source?
Or are you just talking out your ass?
I don't think the competition is laughing.
I think they're shitting.

There are quite a few more articles like this. For building a car that was not directly aimed at setting track records, they sure do talk about the GTR's ring lap enough.
Also you need to define professional driver. I define it as someone who drives fast for a living, which Mero does. He is a test engineer. He tests the vehicles at high speed. Heck, even Jeremy Clarkson could be considered a professional driver. They don't need to be in a series like Formula 1 to receive the title of professional.Comment

Now you're just spinning and backpedaling.
ZR1 > GTR
Let me know when Jim Mero starts winning some races, or participating in some, then call him a pro.
Don't be obtuse, you damn well know what I'm talking about.
Mero is a GM Engineer, not a professional race car driver.
Yes or No?
A professional driver, one who races for a living could have squeezed a few more seconds out of the ZR1 then a test engineer.
Yes or No?
And the ZR1 is running the 1/4 in the mid 10's. Stock. On run-flats.
Laugh all you want, but GM built a hell of a car that can run the 'ring faster then just about any other production car and be driven to work Monday thru Friday.
Swap out that pulley on the Supercharger for a few hundred bucks and the car might break into the 9's in the 1/4 by a proficient driver with some decent tires.
The GTR has more computers than silicon valley and drives the car more then the driver does.
Like I said, ZR1 > GTRsigpic

Now it's your turn to find a reputable source showing the ZR1 running the quarter mile in the mid 10's, because all I'm seeing is 11.3.
Car and Driver did it in 11.5 with the GTR.Last edited by Raxe; 08-27-2008, 12:50 AM.Comment

So, I just got back here to Germany from shipping my "new to me' 55 Chevy. When the company showed up, I was like
WTF is that thing. - I am not a fan of anything japanese, but that car was awesome. leather wrapped dash as well as the 20" wheels. the driver let me go up and sit in it, and check it all out.
window sticker price was at $70,000-- which is a bit cheaper than the new euro M3
heres a few pics I snapped.
its coming here to germany too, wonder who he lucky german is that bought it.

C&D? They have an import bias.I'm neither spinning nor backpedaling. You wanted a source, I gave you two.

Stock Z06's are running mid-low 11's
The point is/was that the ZR1 is fast and not even reaching it's full potential with run-flats, a non-pro behind the wheel and the article I read stated that the driver was running against a strong headwind during the run at the 'ring, which is why he barely hits 180 on the straight, which is about 20 MPH below what the car is capable of.
Whoever ran an 11.3 must not have launched very well, as Stock Z06's are running those times and better.
The GTR is a nice car, but to laugh at GM and the ZR1 is ignorant.
It's an awesome car that can be tracked and DD and will own pretty much everything out there, including cars costing 3-5x's as much.
But it doesn't have a leather, hand-stitched dash, so it must be junk.Last edited by E30 Cabrio; 08-27-2008, 11:43 AM.sigpic

I read a pretty extensive review in road&track magazine of the gt-r vs. the 911 turbo vs. the c6 zo6.
the gt-r ran 11.8 seconds in the 1/4 mile, trapping 116. barely lost out to the 911 and z06 which both ran identical 11.7's. the gt-r annihilated them both on the track, however. (these numbers are subjective of course, don't tear into me motherfuckers)
they stated over and over and over how the 911 turbo was the benchmark "has to beat" car during the gt-r's development. this was also clearly illustrated by the ease with which the gt-r trounced the P car.
it was also pretty clear that the gizmos in the gt-r took a lot of the feel and the challenge out of driving it i guess (launch control, ATTESA E-TS)
overall, the conclusion was that the porsche and corvette were a lot more fun and engaging to drive. the gt-r is simply a numbers car and crushes all comparable production cars statistics-wise.
PS: is there anything about the above gt-r that's not stock aside from satin black paint? looks to be completely stock

Whatever. I personally know Z06 owners who know how to launch and can break 10 seconds on stock run-flats. High 10's, but still in the 10's.I've seen them do it personally, at the track, with my own eyes an not on YouTube or read about it in some car mag.
The ZR1 is in a whole different league then the Z06
Perhaps it was Jeremy Clarkson that logged the 11.5 run in the ZR1
That's what most stock Z06's run with a decent driver behind the wheel.
And from 80 MPH to 200+, the ZR1 walks the GTR no problem.
The only advantage the GTR has is on the launch with AWD, thus the slightly faster 0-30 time, but once the ZR1 hooks up, it's bye-bye.
And there are tons of rumors that the GTR that ran at the ring was a ringer and not stock.
Rumor has it the stock GTR ran a 7:36 at the 'ring at first and when they couldn't meet their target of 7:25, they brought in a ringer.
And rumors of numerous problems with the GTR AWD system are already making the rounds.
Regardless, ZR1 > GTR
Point is, a better driver, no headwind and some real tires and the ZR1 might break 7:1xsigpic
