I personally think of all the "M" cars, here is the pecking order:
          M1...the original, the beast.
          M3: built the damn thing
          M5: MOTOR, motherfucker!
          M6: MOTOR with style, bitches

all the E36 bodykit cars are fun and all, but nothing there says "Homoligation Special" the way the real M3 does, the E46 cars are quicker, the CSL is a great collectors car, the E90 is full of motor...but none of the other cars were hand built by enthusiasts, for enthusiasts.

I'd have to say the 2002tii was even more raw than the E30 M3. ABS and power steering? Who needs it?

For me, the only truly BMW M3 it's the e30....it's special and way different than a regular e30, in the case of a e36 regualr vs M3, are "close" look and some other lthings....

lol funny thread...I got about half way through before I couldn't take any more, but this was ultra funny IMO:

"True fact: the E36, E46 & E92 M3s all have cupholders in them that will allow their drivers to remove their testicles and place them in the center console.

                    The E30 M3 doesn't have any cupholders. "

The fact that the E30M3 is a RACE CAR and the E36 is a STREET CAR makes all the difference in the world. E30's can do amazing things, so can E36's.

Heck, I have an E30 325is and an E36 318i. Both are wildly fun in their own unique way.

The E30 is just so raw, refreshing, and loves to get thrown around.

The E36 is still very nimble, fun as hell to drive on twisty roads (M42 folks!), and the car I use for auto-cross and daily driving.

I feel that this whole argument is similar to the age old "E36 4-bangers are worthless" mentality that people have. Nothing could be further from the truth. I LOVE my 318i and the way I have it setup at this moment makes it unbelievably fun to drive. Yes, it lacks in the power department, but that makes little difference.

My brother with an 01 330i told me: "Having the torque monster 3.0L engine is alot of fun for daily use and all, but I really think that having a momentum car like your 318, takes alot more skill to drive, and more pleasing in the long run."

I find that to be very true. The little M42 loves to rev, especially after putting in an 11.5lbs flywheel and E34M5 clutch. Once you get that M42 revving on the twisty roads, it doesn't let anything get in its way to stop it from staying there. I had a blast driving that car in the mountainous roads of NC and SC last Christmas, and I more often than not left my brother in the dust.

Cliff Notes: Power is not everything. It isn't how much power it has, it is HOW you drive with the power it has.

That is the main reason why i dont post on BF. They're all biased towards the E36, so the E30s dont get any respect. I say just let the values of the cars do the talking. Any form of E36 M3 is worth way less than a beat up E30 m3. I do think the E36 M3 is a great car, but everyone has to admit.Quality wasnt there when this car was built.

BF is way more than the General Discussion area, which is where the E36 dogs go to lick their nuts. The model-specific areas can be pretty good - the E30 sub forum is not bad, and the e24 one is as good as BigCoupe.
