What makes a 325e so shit and slow?

I'm thinking of buying one, 325e manaual. What actually makes them so slow? and rev out to 5000rpm only?

    Thanks

they are not slow! geo metros are slow, ETA's are fast enough, torque happy, and a hell of alot of fun to drive! Everyone hates on the ETA, its a good strong motor, and honestly the M20B25 isn't that much quicker

I prefer it to my old 325is by far... 170lb/ft of torque at 3000rpm is pretty fun for daily driving. But it's a super ETA so it might be different.

I loved my ETA. Torquey and a blast as a daily around town. Killer MPGs too. Kind of a piglet on the freeway tho, but you'll have that.

After driving a 325i I didn't feel so bad though, not as huge a difference as I thought.

                    Meh..loser...
i've driven the 325i and i've noticed that the 323i is quicker, 325i's are really slugish compared to the 323i imo, if i was to make the 325e a 2.7 do i just throw on a 323i head or 325i head? do i have to change the harness?

                    Cheers

The 325e is already a 2.7. But to keep the comp. ratio, Use the 323i head (731) and the "i" wiring harness. With the "i" (885) head it drops it down to 8:1 or somewhere along those lines.

I hate to tell you to search. But search in the M20 section for head swap or budget stroker. I remember someone doing the i head swap and putting it on a dyno.

Yep, you'll need an I head, manifold, harness, ecu, and injector + rail...

Ive heard it takes an eta motor you put an "i" crank with "i" rods on the eta pistons and motor with an "i" head

Well, that's Motronic for you. L-jet is much more responsive. But 323i's usually weigh a good bit less than 325i's. Early vs late production.

I wouldnt throw the head, but yes either of those will work. Remember the 731 head isnt going to flow like the 885, because it has small ports (exhaust is the same as the eta; intake is slightly larger). The 731 will be much torquier than the 885 though.

Get rid of the eta's engine harness. Whether you choose the L-jet or "i" Motronic system, either will be required to get the eta revving (properly).

The head design doesnt keep the car from revving past 5k or so, it's the electronics.

The eta motor is great. Torque isnt a bad thing and neither is efficiency. I like my eta. It's faster and more efficient than my M42 even.

I have a 325e and I still think its a lot of fun....I mean it better be fun? It the only reason why I own the thing :nice:
