I have to say, I have driven a few 323i's and a couple of 325i's, and I actually think the 323i's I've driven feel faster..
Keep in mind that 323i's are early models and 325i's are late models (in Australia they are anyway...) So size and weight may have something to do with it, or maybe the 323i's simply age more gracefully?.. Who knows.
Having said that, I have never driven a 325e, and only once a 325is (and barley remember it)

I never new about the torque difference in the ETA though. Very interesting

for goodness sake, don't put an m42 w/5speed in an E, retaining the E diff :P

      70mph @ 2300rpm, and 35-37mpg.. but it's a turd in town..

You have 4 e30's and neither one of them is an E? I currently have 2 I's and 2 E's. I always drive my eS. It maybe a little slower, but out of corners and for city driving, it's by far more fun than my last iS.

It's not super fast, and I am not beating any supercars, but I get amazing gas mileage for the kind of driving. My lowest city mpg is 24, the rest of the months it stays in the upper 20's and lower 30's. Highway is a whole other world. Going 70 in fifth at idling RPMs.

        Best car for the money.
The reason i have never driven an E is because alot of people tell me they are very sluggish and not worth buying...the reason i made this thread is because i know a guy selling one for $500 which is in immaculate condition, And i don't know if it's worth buying.

you really need a thread to determine whether or not to buy an immaculate E30 (regardless if trim level) for $500?? Did you fall down and bump your head?

How do eta's like turbo's. I think that will fix the issue with them being slow......

I plane on putting a turbo on the I am looking at if I get it.

                this is maddness

OP, buy the eta or don't, but for your own reasons. They are kinda sluggish, stock, but they aren't piles of crap or anything.

323i's FEEL quicker, but the 325i is a BIT faster

                  My e isn't that bad.

I got a Mark D chip, 'intake', cat back and RRFPR, it moves pretty well.

It's plenty quick for daily driving.

read again, i was the owner of an ETA, several ETA's actually but its not an ETA anymore ;) but i would buy another one before i bought an I car

also i believe there is a big difference between quick and fast...

fast is how fast you can go

quick is how quickly you can get there!

There is no such thing as a fast stock e30. (fuck you, guy who's about to post 'hurr lol e30 M3 S14 stock guhguhguh' Just.. fuck you.)

eta motors have a 5K revlimit built into the ECU, because the B27 head has single valve springs, which do not rebound quickly enough at 7K RPM, which causes valve float, which will eventually plant a valve into one of your cylinders, which in turn causes engine kersplosion.

                          ^ Agreed.

I like my ETA fine with a Mark D chip and 3.46lsd. Honestly though, as said before, none of the M20s are anything to get excited over when N/A. So while the "i" drivers love to talk shit about the ETA motors, and us ETA guys will defend them to no end, at the end of the day were all driving slow cars.

The reason i love my E30 is not because of the motor, but the way it handles due to suspension. Which is the case, i believe, for most non-24v and N/A E30 drivers.

A chipped 5 speed eta is a fun efficient car.. I drive a Z3 3.0 which is undeniably faster than the eta but i still adore mine and the z3 doesn't ruin the fun of the eta, just my 2 cents

                                your a funny guy ;)

the M20 is a great, reliable, fun motor, its no rocket ship but as its been said before and said over and over again its fun to drive.

and yes I guys love to say how slow the ETA is but when it comes down to it, its got more torque when you really need it!
