Here's a clip I came across a while back of a 325es being put through the paces by a Car & Driver journalist, pretty good commentary on it's strengths, and weaknesses:
What makes a 325e so shit and slow?

I have a eta that will make the OP eat his words.
85 325e 'The 4 Door Horror'
2.7 block, 731 cylinder head
Original 027 ecm with a good chip
3:46 LSD
headers, 2.5" exhaust, no cat
A/C, P/S, fan and clutch delete
Engine bay stripped
All sound deadening removed from firewall and trunk
When I first got the car it was all stock and pulled 30plus MPG. Now I am lucky to get 24, average is 19mpg. I can pull on almost anything to 60mph. I once launched on a set of street bikes, pulled one guy up into second before he caught up. I had launched so hard the other bike stalled on the line in traffic.
I am currently building a new 2.8 engine for it with bigger bores and increased compression.
Are etas shit? Are they slow? If modified correctly they can be a whole lot of fun, so the answer is simply no.Comment

I think that was the plan :p
Any slow car can be made to be fast it just depends on what you want to put into it. IMO the ETA is not the car to get if you are looking for out of the box performance but if you are looking for a fun daily driver they are decent.Comment

and you've never drive an E?
You have 4 e30's and neither one of them is an E? I currently have 2 I's and 2 E's. I always drive my eS. It maybe a little slower, but out of corners and for city driving, it's by far more fun than my last iS.
It's not super fast, and I am not beating any supercars, but I get amazing gas mileage for the kind of driving. My lowest city mpg is 24, the rest of the months it stays in the upper 20's and lower 30's. Highway is a whole other world. Going 70 in fifth at idling RPMs.
Best car for the money.Comment
