holy crap thats one hell of a first post.Don't count on much. As an engineer I find it troubling that people don't know that structures are not designed to survive 50 or 100 year storms, the intention is for the inhabitants to survive. I just had this conversation with someone else yesterday. In New York the earthquake design requirement are intended simply for the structure to retain integrity long enough for people to escape the building, not for the building to be servicable during or after the storm.
