Never heard of such a swap idea - certainly would require some custom fab work to make it happen. Anything is possible if you throw enough money into it. The VR6 motor is a cool engine - makes a sweet exhaust note at full chat. The 2.8L 24-valver with a supercharger would be pretty insane if you could actually make it work.
And while on the topic of VW into BMW engine swaps, what about a 1.8L turbo from an Audi A4? Already set up for longitudinal install. Just needs an APR Stage 3+ kit to make things really interesting :)

yeah i've seen a few rear engine rear wheel drive VW's including a front and rear engine 16v rabbit, but i don't have a golf or a rabbit and the fab work is crazy your taking about completly ripping out the back half of a car inside and out rear panels floor everything, compaired to removing an engine, making mounts and wiring it up...... i've helped do my fair share of "out of the norm swaps" so it showed really present no real difficulty that i havent encountered or wont be able to overcome, the VR would fit like a charm longitudaly a new intake would be pretty easy to fab up, and since i'm going turbo there will be a few pre-made manifold for that too, i think it will be a sick setup, i did some research last night and found what RWD audi trans would fit and an adapter plate to mate it with the VR (thanks to help from PInepig), it's just gonna take time, when i get it started yes i will make a thread about it and still keep my flame suit on lolComment
