How do I reset the Service lights?

It's been a while since I've done this and a search didn't help.

I have an 88 Cabrio, and need to reset the service light.

I had my oil changed, but not at the dealer so I need to reset the SI lights.

I need to find the diagram that shows which pin connectors I need to jump to reset the light(s)

Anyone have the diagram and instructions?

I've done it before, but can't find the diagram.

I had a printout once, but can't find it.

    I believe I have the 173 ECU

    Thanks.

Just as a tip I use a continuity tester. I clip it onto something grounded and then stick the lead in hole # 11 (I think)

Glad I came across this thread. My light just turned on my 90' vert. So what pin do I need to jump? And do you do it on the diagnostic connector or behind the cluster?

Hey, my little plastic bag with a ziptie around it held on fine for my whole cross-country trip. This just looks slightly cleaner.

A bit of warning, order that and you get a late model cover.

So did you jump the diagnostic diagnostic connector or behind the cluster?

                            Diagnostic connector.

Unscrewed the black plastic cover, took a large paper clip and doubled the ends of the paper clip by bending them with pliers so the ends of the clip would fit snugly, inserted the ends of the paper clip into the #7 and the #19 pin holes (They are actually numbered if you look real close) turned the key to the "On" position (But don't start the car!) and the lights reset almost instantaneously.

Removed key, removed paper clip, screwed the cap back on, closed the hood and was done.

Different year models will have different Diag connectors, so make sure you do it right otherwise something bad might happen.

The 1 amp inline fuse is a good idea. I was going to use a length of solder in addition to the paper clip as a "fuse link" but didn't have time and I don't know if that would work.

                            What year is your car?

I think it was different on my 86 es

Maybe connector numbers 1 and 7 for older E30's/ECU's?

Stolen from one of the links above:

Insert the ends of a big paper clip, a length of wire, or whatever you have handy that will work, into the connectors for pin # 7 and pin # 19, turn the key to the 2nd "On" position and the Service light and the Red and Yellow lights should all reset right away.

Just make sure you hit the right holes.
