    I missed this one...

I have one in a box under my bench...

When I get the chance I'll pull it out and shoot it...

...It's cost just to build them was about $300 so they wont be selling anytime soon.

I do have a manifold port design I've been wanting to do some on-car testing with but I haven't had the time and some of my necessary equipment to fab it is blown up at the moment.

So basically while the cheese grater makes airflow better, the engine cant make use of it anyway?

True... Kid hits the nail on the head.

          Not a "stock" m20 anyway...

Without a lot of other modifications changing the intake piping on this end wont get you far...And most will cost you power.

More importantly a lot of things aren't what they seem at first glance.

A lot of things are a little more complicated than they look...

Like the fact that a smooth pipe will flow way less air that a rough surface or better yet a uniformly micro ridged surface.

These were held in place with large steel cir-clips on either side.

Would it be better with a honeycomb plate?

The honeycomb shape should maintain most open area while convert the flow into laminate flow for higher velocity

having something like this will be more likely to send what may be laminar flow past its boundary condition into turbulent, it will probably not do the opposite.

Ok, so what exactly are you going to do then???? I can't seem to wrap my head around how much of a difference this would make to say a stroked m20 with a map sensor and headers? Or say a turbo'd m20.. What gains will you see? If I have a friend with the first type of motor putting out say 198 whp, what gains will your change induce? Throttle response or true HP?
I can't help but think back to a thread you started a couple of days ago stating how frustrating it is to sell to e30 owners (due to r&d costs vs their spending habits). Now you are reinventing the "wheel" no matter how square it may be. Whats up with you? Are you bowing out of new product design or not? I would love to buy things that make my e30 more appealing to me, and heighten my overall driving experience, dont get me wrong. But I am seeing conflicting attitudes when it comes to your future involvement.
I guess what I am saying is this. "If you're so downtrodden by the way this community buys and builds that you are thinking about getting out, why threaten to build something to revolutionize the way our engines breathe????" We probably won't accept the price right?
Just a question. Not really an attack, I feel it's legit to ask.

huh? Can you explain a little more in detail? Much appreciated.

From what I read and seen, the honeycomb seems to use to produce laminar flow.

Anyway, I am no fluid dynamic engineer, so I am just obtaining info off the net and some studies, so my guess can be incorrrect.

This is the type of honeycomb I am talking about, not the stamped out mesh grill.

ok one of the technicians just walked in here with an article with your name on it from 1995 about exactly this even mentions the honey comb vs the square grid, maf vs afm, and port design and micro sculpting surfaces

you do this to get a kick dont you

It's rather funny to see him pushing in the direction of the first mod (cut screen out) the lsx guys do to their maf sensor.
