Well, that depends. My friend is currently leasing a CLS63 AMG Mercedes thing. He gets about ~3k miles per set of tires at best. (that statement was meant to tell you how hard he is on the car). After his 2 or 3 years are up, he really doesnt need to have that car around any more, or the bills will pile up big time.

Does it matter what other people think? I can completely change who I am in others peoples eyes by changing what I drive, once I was driving my old VW camper van when a migrant worker in a clean late '90s Camry hit me, I was dressed in khakis and a nice jacket on my way to work, the officer took a long time to realize I wasn't driving the Camry

If someone judges you or your desires by what you drive then the problem is most likely not on your end, I prefer to have a car that is paid for than a new car with a payment.

This place is like catholic school, 2/3 of the students smoke weed on a daily basis, but the faculty seems to convince the outside world that drugs are just in the other schools, the resident pot dealer thinks he's cool because he has the originality to call anyone he doesn't like a homosexual, and most of the little children follow him like sheep, then there's the few with brains, you hardly ever hear from them, perhaps don't even know they exist, but they get all the sh!t done.

I find pretty interesting that the crowd of the modern M3s think that owners of the original M3s are poor. As in fact the price of e30 M3s is higher than e36 M3s and soon to be at par with e46s. And that price keeps on climbing every year while e36 M3s go to the junkyard or get sold for $10k for a very good one (a very good e30 M3 starts at $20k).
Brake harder. Go faster. No shit.

I randomly get compliments on the E30. At least once a month.

I'm convinced the reason is the same as it was with my CRX. Nice, clean examples are a rare sight (at least here in the midwest).

People don't do double takes on rusty old beat up cars. But a clean, rust free E30, mods or not, will turn heads.

no comments on my car in a long time - it's just a boring, gray 80's 4 door sedan to most people. And that's how I like it.

Awesome! I got my first compliment driving my 325 today for the first time in years. Pretty surprising seeing as it was a younger dude too. He was quite enthusiastic about it too. Always feels good to hear that.

I actually get people knocking on my front door and asking if I want to sell my Cabrio when it's parked in my driveway.

Usually during the Spring/Summer months when the weather is nice and I have the car detailed and looking good. (unlike in my sig pic)

Some guy wanted to buy it for his wife and offered me $800.00 more then what I paid for it when I first bought it, before I added the B-weaves and other stuff, including the front and rear seats that I swapped in as the old ones were not in the best of shape.

I've probably put about $1,000 into it since I bought it two years ago, mostly in cosmetic stuff like seats, maplight mirror, new HU, wheels, etc...

I plan on keeping this car for a while.

It has 119k on it right now, and I only drive about 4k per year so I should easily get 10 years out of it at this pace.

lol some of u do realize that the new M3 is in the 68k range right ? Thats way above a rare very clean E30 M3 which would pull 20k, so yeah. I can understand why the people who drive those cars think the E30 M3 is the poor mans M3. Doesnt make it a better car though, just pricier. I always give E30 drivers thumbs up, I think half of them in TX dont now what they are driving, which is odd they choose to keep such an old car and not even want to learn about it.

I started getting complimets from strangers when I got my e30... I wasn't used to it at all! I've been driving an e34 for over 3 years and no one said a word to me about it (only people I knew would comment). With the e30, I get the stares and comments from strangers a lot.

There's this Shell station I go to, and every time I bring the e30 there, the guy behind the counter tries to buy it from me. "How much for it?"...I keep telling him, I jsut bought it, it's not going anywhere!

                              "He speaks French..... in Russian."

I am hoping that by getting a new clean e30 and putting money in it over the next couple years, that in 10 years it will have been a great investment.

or completely restoring my vert. but I would much rather have a coupe
