I agree. The 1.8T's are the ones that you need to be afraid of. They can add like 60 hp by spending 500 bucks. Much more potential than a VR6 unless you have money out the ass. -

And auto Eta has got to be awful. Did they make and Auto 318i? I hope not.
Yeah Automatic ETA's are horrible
and yes, they made auto 318i's :p

that's probably why a 5 speed ETA posted the same 1/4 mile. if you just put it in drive you never even get to the engine's peak output (it shifts at what, 5500rpm?). if you put it in 3rd (or even better, 2nd), it'll pull to 6, if you push the button on the floor you'll hit the redline.. doesn't matter to you now though, and next year it won't matter for me either :)Originally posted by DigitalwaveNando, yes, just put it in drive.Comment

My car generally shifted at about 6,000 which is around where the power of an M20 falls off anyway, so I wasn't concerned with it.Comment

I've always known how slow my car was, hah. I just never knew just how much faster something got when you just tacked on 50 hp and better gearing. Very well. I haven't put much money into the performance of the engine, just aesthetic mods to the body. All I've done to it is put in a chip from a local tuner (Schatz & Krum), and a K&N free flow air filter. My friend is selling his car, btw, in favor of a 1.8T which he will dump in a fatter tubo, or possibly a newer 2.8 VR6 which he will supercharge. It's just hilarious because he tells me how quick my car is, and I just laugh at him. Stupid eta shit!I retired my E30 for now...

What did you run? I missed that thread.Originally posted by Ryan Stewartexcept that I pulled the same 1/4 time as you did (according to you in that past thread)Originally posted by DigitalwaveActually, an auto 325i is still considerably faster than a stock 5 speed eta.
Is this all you have?
'i' throttle body,
chip,
Shorter geared diff. ( I forget wich on you have)
The Eta is really slow engine, but I like the wide tq band.
Can't wait to get ride of it soon :P
PS:: I'd HATE to have a M10

Must have been the early 12v model. The newer 24valvers have an extra 26hp and 6-speeds, should be a bit more of a challenge.Originally posted by JordanHeh... first week with my car some guy in a MK4 Golf VR6 got beside me at a light and asked to race.
1 block and I was 2-3 cars ahead.
VR6's are't that fast, at least not in the heavy cars they get put in.Comment

i always though of it this way, at idle an e will sit there and go eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee and an i will go iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii which would you rather hear? its silly and stupid but if ever both next to each other and its actually not that stupid. if an e or es were to ever pull me in my is i would have to ask a few question like what did he do to it. I will admit my car is not fast, I know there alot of cars out there that are faster. But When i compare cars I compare a car that is equal to mine. Im not going to compare my car to an E36 M3 because it has like 35-45% more power. If im going to compare it, Ill do it with something that has about the same size engine.Comment

That's "about" the same size. :D
