E39 Wagons are sweet... they seem pretty heavy, thou. But I must agree, e34 wagons look even sweeter

The E34 Touring wasn't nearly as popular at the E39....you just don't see many of them these days (I know I don't). A few years ago while at a local BMW shop I saw one of these E34 "wagons" that had a very unique swap under the hood. The car itself was a '94 model but its motivation was provided by a '95 S50 3.0L with software and cam upgrades along with a 5 speed. I was told this was a local car but I haven't seen it since then.

Anyway, I thought it was pretty damn cool. Seeing the E34s came with a variety of engines, if you found a chassis you liked but didn't like the power/tranny combo you could always swap it out for something better suited to your taste.

              ddamn, that would be cool

I could definately deal with something like that

I just want something with more room than my e30 to daily drive. as is, i have to have my e30 and a winter car. Considering I also have my baby; the 240z, and the bike, these are just too many projects

I think he's implying the guy wanted it to be a sleeper.. and he probably did. although the demon eyes coming up behind you like a bat ouf ot hell might catch your attention, until you see it's a wagon

I'd run a M5 badge on the back of that, and everyone would think your lying. Just let the hammer drop, and maybe they'll think other wise.
The BMW 318 is back. With a vengeance.

There is a M5 badge. It looks like a factory M5, the only thing that gives the game away is that it's a wagon. Hardcore enthusiasts will be like "not a real M5". And then the guy has to go and pop the hood and then you have to go and pop wood.

My aunt used to rock the E34 530iT.... as said, the E34 V8 Tourings only came in auto... I haven't driven an E39, but I'm about to buy an E34 540iA the day after tomorrow, and while I will admit that the auto is shit, but the 540iA still has plenty of juice though, you guys with the M20/M40 E30's should hop in one before you talk smack. The M60 may not be the best engine BMW ever designed, but it does have enough power to scoot around.

As for E39 Tourings, I have seen a lot of M-Tech package E39 Tourings in Tokyo, though a lot of them were 520i and 530i's. In Asian markets the M-Tech pack was available on any engine config, I beleive. They look just like the M5 tourings pictured, except with lattice front grilles and the double-spoke 5-star 17"s.

I could deal with an e39 wagon if it had the m bodykit and wheels, but I couldn't put those things on unless I had an m5 motor, which is a shitload of money

if he was making a sleeper, why bother with the m5 bodywork? oooooh, this is one of those 'hot' sleepers, my bad.

                                Auto 540s can blow me.

                                Manual M20 525 > E34 Automatic V8 IMO.

That said, 6spd 540i Sports are fucking kickass, and are great to drive....
And have driven in a share of 5 Touring, including a 540 I believe. I mean, it's longer and heavier....but the feeling is the same. I'd rather have a stick.

You might feel some grunt, but it's not the same having automagic do the work for you.

and I don't like the look of the 97-03 5 series
The exterior may be bland, but the E34 is somewhat dated.

But more significant to me is interior: E39 >> E34 interior in styling, comfort, and size, IMO.
