Need help picking a good car

Im new to the car community but I've found that I really like old bmws but don't know enough to identify stuff. These are some listings I've found and I was wondering if these are good and how much work they would need to be pretty good

We're going to need more info than that. Can you provide more pictures and more detail of the two cars you are interested In?

        One is a 4-cylinder E30. The other is a 4-cylinder M10 E21.

You should first check if a car has a perfect body with no rust. That's the main priority.

As stated above, I would definitely prioritize the condition of the body shell over everything else. After all, the other stuff bolts on. Having had both an m42 and an m10, I will say that the m42 is definitely a more engaging engine to drive - mostly as the m10 was designed for a lighter car.

At this point in the E21/E30 lifespan, teamed with your newness, the condition of the body should be your top priority. Rust is a big no-no to tackle. Like KI4 said above, everything else bolts on.
            My previous build (currently E30-less)
