e30 box is lighter, easier to rebuild, arguably more durable, and I happened to have one for sale...
And....I may get flamed for this, but, I've never driven an E36 that didn't have a sloppy shifter with no feel...and hard to get the right gear (but easy to get the wrong on a downshift!)
