Unfortunately the only thing I'd consider swapping these for is a pair of Recaro Classic LS seats or similar.

Totally understandable! LS's are the others on my list as well.

So things have been a little crazy lately. We're fairly-suddenly moving house to bring in my 83-year-old mother-in-law, and selling two houses while buying another, having a buyer walk and having to do an ultra-quick master bathroom reno while getting my MiL packed, our house ready for buyers and keeping a life together has turned out to be very interesting.

I did manage to go to SouthEast SharkFest and Slovakia (for work) since the last check-in too. As it turns out, my Shark went from running awesome the day before heading to the event to running strange the day of, and I had no time to debug. So Scooter got the call (the family and others are calling the car "Scooter" so I guess I'm committed

I noticed some damp in the trunk, and the driver's door seal is definitely perished and making wind noise at speed. Mike actually included a full set of brand new OE BMW door and window seals with the car, but I think I'm going to hang on to them as I consider a paint job. I decided to get a set of the Race German tail light gaskets, a new truck seal and the aftermarket door seals from Germany for sale on eBay. I'm hoping they're not the Üro versions which I've heard aren't great. I guess well see. I also decided I need a radio in this car, so I grabbed one of the Continental units from Race German too.

All of that will probably have to wait until I get settled in the new house. We close a week from today, but it's going to be chaos in general through most of July.

In the meantime, I had a bunch of stuff addressed (more on that later) and have been driving the car pretty regularly. It's fun in a can. I can't stop smiling. ;)

I'll probably do an Episode 4 of the channel at some point, but chaos for a bit.

The journey with the E30 continues. It's been a seriously-crazy 8 months or so - I'll spare y'all the details, but one of them is a move to a new house in Raleigh, NC (I previously lived nearby in Cary).

In the midst of the chaos, I've managed to address some nagging things with the car. The refurb Z4 rack was leaking from one of the seals, so I warranty-replaced that. The billet oil pan also has a consistent drip, which turned out to be a slight gouge in the mating surface that was keeping it from sealing properly. Since it was nice and tight, I slapped 9 liters of Amsoil in the S52. Yeah - the better part of a 2.5 gallon jug... (this is enabled by the oil pan required by the swap. Normally it's an M50 pan (which gains capacity), but the billet pan based on that design offers more clearance actually enables even more capacity.

I replaced all the lugs with new blacks ones too. The old ones were a bit battered and two wheels had slightly longer ones that were used when the car was running spacers. Then the car went to SouthEast SharkFest since my M635 decided to act up a bit...

Post-SharkFest I had a couple issues where the car would stall and wouldn't restart. It turned out to be a dying in-tank fuel pump. Of all things a Chevy Vega pump could be hacked into the existing assembly and seems to be working great:


As the pandemonium settles a bit, I have a list of things to do to the car soon:

• I have a knockoff set of door seals to try out. The almost-certainly original ones are done, especially on the driver's side. I have a brand-new OE set, but I'm considering whether to save them for installation when I can figure out a paint job of some sort on the car. (no hard plan on timing yet)

• I have an OE trunk seal to install too, along with brake light gaskets which will hopefully solve some damp issues in the trunk.

• I've got a kick panel made of plastic from Race German that will replace a slightly-shabby original one - haven't opened it up yet - lol

• The interior door handle on the driver's side broke. I splurged and ordered the Leo Grande billet aluminum door handles, which might eventually wind up in the M635 if I like them and don't feel flush enough to buy them twice :laugh:

• I need to adjust the cushions in the Scheel Mann seats

• ...and a bunch of other little stuff

I'm still kinda digging into the garage (and the house itself, for a variety of reasons), so this and other stuff might stretch out. I need to get a proper-sized battery for the car so I can get the battery tray in the car and a more-secured battery. I also have a Continental radio I need to install (or have it done for me).

The oak leaves at the new house have not been kind to Scooter, so I dashed into a car-wash for a quick bit of attention. He deserves more, but no time at the moment...

The Falken Azenis tires on the car clearly don't like cool or wet weather so I took advantage of a sale at Tire Rack (25% of the wheels) to get new rubber and new wheels. Aside from the Falkens not being done yet, mounting tires on the existing wheels would have been $100 by itself. So with the sale and the free mount/balance, it's basically getting the wheels half off.

They're not quite what they picture on the website, but I actually assumed that would be the case. I'm still very happy with them (at least before seeing them on the car).

The Kansei wheels don't fit (interfere with the caliper carrier). Still figuring out what do do there...

My driver's interior door handle has been on the edge of failing for a while, so I'd already bought a set of billet replacements from Angry Ass. Yes, they're pricey ($295), but I've heard all the plastic ones are pretty crap these days, including the OE, so I decided to never need to do it again.
