Hello again 18 years later! Wolfe's second E30, this time a 325i convertible

    Hey!

I registered for R3VLimited when I was only a young man of 20 years, with my first car and first E30, a 1985 318i. I didn't leave much of a footprint then, but I'm back to celebrate, and for a vital reason: I've got a beautiful 1989 325i cabrio I need your help to preserve! It's incumbent on me to fix it up and keep it in good shape. I had limited resources when I was younger, and I'm grateful to have a second chance. 🤞

It's Lachssilber with a blue top (name?) and the 5-speed Getrag 260. I never imagined buying a convertible until this popped up, but combine it with the M20 & manual and I couldn't turn it down. I've waited 15 years to drive an E30 again. With their value & desirability, I wasn't sure I'd be able to get one. I had my first E30 before they were really popular or expensive.

This one is incredibly clean, though well-used. It has well over 180,000 miles, with a broken odometer (typical!). I'm using the computer & a notebook to track accumulated miles. With an open top and so many miles, it's a BMW made of jelly. 🫠 I already plan to install braces above & below the front end!

I'm gonna need some time to lurk the forum and see what's what, but I wanted to begin this thread & drop a message that I am a real human and that I do, in fact, drive an E30. Again! 🥳

My favorite color is dark blue; what are the odds...

    The 325i's interior
The 325i's interior was recently redone! It's 90% incredible, excepting a few worn or broken things.

My first E30, a 1985 318i 5MT, almost 20 years ago. I was forced to sell it for too little funds and too much rust.

That's quite a break. It's good to see you are back in an E30. They are such fun cars especially the convertibles. I didn't think much of them back in the day but after picking one up, I enjoy being able to drop the top especially on those scenic drives.

          Thanks for the welcome! :)

My Gargaristic braces are installed now. Another E30 convertible spared from excess cowl shake & flex! The difference is outstanding. :D The best curvy roads in rural Wisconsin often have many terrible bumps.

I've been busy doing little things with this car, trying to improve the M20's temperamental output. It's quite slow! And just a little hot, when it's not moving. The #1 thing that needs to change is the catalytic converter, which has failed. We will soon make an appointment to do something about that. In the meantime I've been eliminating common problems or wear items so long as they are worth replacing/doing anyway, on a high-mileage E30. Plugs, coolant, power steering, oil, ICV...anything that I'm familiar with and/or can access without too much trouble.
